Chapter 827 - 826: Ancient Saints Have All Kinds of Personalities
Yu Sheng seemed to have realized it; the witch before him, bearing the identity of an "Ancient Saints" and the titles of "Star Sea Witch" and "Queen of Witches," appeared to have an elegant and mysterious aura, but was actually mischievously bad at heart and truly a master at watching the spectacle."...Why didn't I notice this when we were on the Lost Home," Yu Sheng murmured quietly while strolling through the town with Lucrecia, "At first impression, she seemed so quiet and polite, and now only the politeness remains..."
The Little Puppet closest to him overheard and immediately leaned over to whisper: "Obviously, back on the ship, her dad was right there..."
The Little Puppet then leaned even closer and lowered their voice: "Hey, Yu Sheng, let me tell you, Sister Lucy is pretty bad. As far as I remember, out of every ten times Brother Tirian got beaten in front of the Captain, at least seven and a half times were thanks to Sister Lucy, and Shirley was about the same. Even with Gou pulling her back, she often got coaxed into trouble and then got beaten..."
Yu Sheng listened, bewildered; he certainly hadn't heard this level of detail before. When he finished listening, his first reaction was that the Little Puppet must have expanded their mind capacity over time (mass-producing the mechanical soul), which seemed to restore many memories. His second reaction was a frown as he noticed a detail: "...What about you? Didn't she coax you?"
Erin proudly pounded her chest: "Who am I? She doesn't have time to coax me before I've already caused the trouble, and sometimes when I'm at my best, I conveniently implicate her too..."
Yu Sheng was left speechless: "...There's no need for you to be so proud."
To be fair, this little one is admirable for the confidence they retain regardless of what sort of trap they encounter—seeing shame as pride...
"What are you discussing?" Lucrecia's voice suddenly chimed in from the side, her face beaming with a smile, "May I join the conversation?"
Yu Sheng blurted out: "Erin was just praising your cleverness since childhood."
Lucrecia's smile visibly twitched.
As it turns out, even someone like her couldn't quite grasp where Yu Sheng's train of thought was leading.
However, her attention quickly shifted to the incredible sights of the small town.
It was holiday time, and the little ones weren't in school. Additionally, due to the Exotic Realm invasion causing numerous closures, over half of the exploration tasks were canceled or postponed, leaving the older kids mostly staying put. Today, the town was much busier than usual.
Everywhere you looked, children were running and playing—Xiao Xiao was hopping and jumping on rooftops, riding her newly tamed Shadow Seat Wolf, while a bunch of kids her age shrieked and chased after her through the alleyways below, followed by a group of tin soldiers someone had summoned, leaving a trail of dust and commotion...
A couple of older kids had gotten a few heavy-duty motorcycles from Dorothy, and were driving them along an unfinished stretch of wall on the western edge of town. One of them seemed to have just grasped the ability to communicate with Mechanical Souls, because he lowered his head and had a quick word with his motorcycle, which promptly extended its front wheel, apparently intending to trip the bike next to it—but the wheel barely half-extended before the young rider and bike went tumbling.
After a series of cries, the unlucky child climbed out of a nearby puddle, clutching the bike in one hand and rubbing his backside with the other, heading to find Dorothy for a scolding while wearing a sullen expression.
Once the children had left, bubbles suddenly appeared in the puddle, and a mermaid, belly-up, floated to the surface. Several kids working on model aircraft by the edge of the pit instantly looked up and shouted: "Wow! Mermaid sister can swim!" "No wait, sister passed out!" "Help! Sister Fish is back floating!"
Then two disciples of Qianfeng Ling Mountain, sword riding, happened to fly by and quickly jumped down, tossing a rope to drag the mermaid to shore and started feeding her a Revive Pill—but halfway through, the Snake Princess strolled over, casually snatching away the Flying Swords belonged to the two unlucky souls.
And another bout of chaos broke out, with the Snake Princess cursing, the disciples of Qianfeng Ling Mountain arguing, and a bunch of kids adding to the noise, while the mermaid, still bound by the Immortal Binding Rope, woke up and, seeing the commotion nearby, attempted to wriggle over to watch. Halfway through her wiggle, she collided with a bustling golden Wind Rolling Grass, spinning fiery across the ground, and was knocked back into the water pit...
Incidentally, the long-haired princess rolled up to maintain order—several people might not have noticed this.
The more Lucrecia watched, the brighter her smile became, but Yu Sheng was already embarrassed beyond measure, trying to explain: "It's not always this chaotic usually; today's a holiday for the kids, coinciding with several Exotic Realm closures—if you come at another time, the valley is peaceful, aside from the occasional Puppet flying on a sword and tumbling from the sky, it's quiet without much disturbance..."
"I find it quite appealing; I like such environments," Lucrecia said with a smile. Strangely enough, Yu Sheng felt that this time, her smile was genuinely sincere, lacking that usual teasing expression.
Soon after, the Star Sea Witch abruptly raised her hand and pointed at a nearby empty space: "It seems quite nice over there. If possible, could that open space be my temporary residence?"
Yu Sheng looked up and realized it was an area by the river on the town's edge—long-haired princess intended to erect a 20-meter-high milk dragon sculpture there before, but her blueprint was vetoed the day it was drawn, leaving the place empty till now.
Originally, Little Red Riding Hood would occasionally practice driving on that empty lot, but after persistent protests from Dorothy and the mermaid, she moved her practice location elsewhere, making the area even more unused.
By the way, Dorothy is protesting because Little Red Riding Hood would drive the car borrowed from her into the river, and the mermaid is protesting because she is in the river.
"No problem, this place has been vacant anyway," Yu Sheng nodded, "There's no construction plan here for the near future, so you can live here for a long time."
So Lucrecia headed toward the vacant land.
Under the curious gazes of Yu Sheng and the others, the Star Sea Witch just casually took out a colorful piece of paper, and with dazzling dexterity, quickly folded the paper into the shape of a small house.
Then she casually threw the folded paper house onto the open space, and with her other hand, she conjured a delicate wand like a baton out of thin air, pointing it gently at the paper house.
And then, a miracle occurred.
The folded colorful paper house instantly expanded and grew, transforming into a normal-sized house with a burst—a house of many colors, its roof deep brown like chocolate, walls made of sugar cubes iced with white frosting, a giant rainbow candy stick serving as a chimney, light fluffy cotton candy floating above it, windows made of fruit hard candies, and windowsills adorned with pretty bouquets of cake as pots and lollipops as flowers.
Yu Sheng was dumbfounded; he never expected the "Star Sea Witch" beside him would use such power—this was more "magical" than any magic he had ever seen, and the little house standing by the riverbank seemed to be a part of Fairy Tale Town from the very beginning.
It radiated a sort of... dreamy, warm and bright, sweet atmosphere.
To be honest, it was truly sweet. Just a glance made Yu Sheng feel like his blood sugar level had shot up.
Then he heard a short and upward howl at his side, and turned to see Hu Li staring blankly, immediately after which the demon fox girl flopped to the ground, reverting to her original form, and darted toward the candy house like a flash of lightning...
Fortunately, there were quick responders at the scene. Luna, who hadn't spoken much but always stayed alert, grabbed the fluffy big tail of the fox girl just as she darted off, pulling hard to drag her back...
Yu Sheng also reacted swiftly, and before the demon fox girl could launch her tail forward, he grabbed the little fox's head, "Silly girl, calm down! It's folded! This is folded!"
Hu Li was wiggling and howling in Yu Sheng's arms, and hearing this, she finally quieted down a bit. But then Lucrecia came over, smiling cheerfully, and chimed in, "Though it's folded, it has magic and can be eaten."
Hu Li quieted for two seconds before she started flailing around again, "Savior! I'm hungry!"
Yu Sheng immediately broke out into a cold sweat, turning to glare at the elegantly smiling Star Sea Witch, "If you keep this up, I'm going to tell your dad!"
Just then, an urgent ringtone suddenly blared from Yu Sheng's pocket.
Yu Sheng hurriedly scrambled, keeping one hand on the squirming little fox in his arms (thankfully Hu Li wasn't truly struggling hard), and with the other, he fumbled for a long time before finally getting the phone out, seeing the caller was Baili Qing.
He answered the call and put the phone to his ear, "Hello? Director?"
"I was in a meeting just now, just saw your message," Baili Qing's cool, calm voice came from the other end, but it stopped hesitantly halfway, "... What's happening over there? What's making noise?"
"A fox call," Yu Sheng explained while trying to dodge light bites from the little fox, "It's almost time for dinner, and Lucrecia conjured a candy house, which drove Hu Li crazy..."
The other side was silent for two seconds. When Baili Qing's voice came through again, it was apparent it was no longer as calm as before, "Is her Excellency the 'Star Sea Witch' right beside you?"
"Yes, she's watching the fun over here... Alright, alright, stop licking, it's a call from Baili Qing, I'm discussing business. Hey? I'm here, I'm here, continue."
"... In short, the council greatly values the arrival of the Star Sea Witch, and we..." Baili Qing's voice clearly carried a "about to lose composure but must maintain as we face Ancient Saints from across the star sea but what on earth is going on over there" tension, "We want to invite you to the Council Tower to discuss the situation about the fault... Are you listening?"
"I'm listening, no problem, no problem, we'll head over right away..." Yu Sheng quickly said before hanging up the phone, then turned around with a dark face, "Can you stop laughing, or else I'll really tell your dad, believe it or not?"
"Alright, Uncle Yu."
