Makeshift Couples

Chapter 7

Mar 04, 2026 7 / 8

Olivia Evans batted her lashes, giving Vincent a look that could melt steel.

Vincent Lowell's body went rigid with raw hunger.

If they hadn't been in public, he would’ve taken her against the wall right then.

They were supposed to head back to the construction site after shopping, but Vincent had other plans.

"Let’s get a room by the hour," he muttered, his gaze locked onto Olivia like a predator.

Without missing a beat, Olivia turned to the front desk. "One standard room. Ethan, you drive back alone." Her tone was smooth, but her eyes held a dangerous glint.

Vincent’s grin widened—like a wolf finally cornering its prey.

I gaped at Olivia, stunned.

The second Vincent disappeared into the restroom, I grabbed her arm. "Run. He’s not safe."

But Olivia didn’t flinch. Her expression darkened, sending an icy shiver down my spine.

That shy, nervous girl was gone. In her place stood someone… unsettling.

Then, just as quickly, the moment passed.

Vincent returned, and Olivia lit up like a seductive flame. "Let’s grab dinner first, Uncle Vincent. My treat." Her voice was syrup—sweet enough to make a man forget his own name.

Vincent licked his lips. "How could I say no to you?"

They found a dimly lit restaurant nearby. Olivia ordered dishes, then turned to the waiter with a smirk.

"Bring us your strongest liquor. I want to drink properly with my uncle."

Every head in the place turned.

Vincent soaked up the attention while Olivia kept his glass full, her fingers grazing his arm—just enough to stoke the fire.

Each time he tried to push further, she slipped away like smoke.

Soon, the liquor took hold.

And with it, the venom spilled out.

"You think I don’t see what you’re doing? Flashing those pretty eyes, acting like you’re here to work—but we both know you’re just digging for gold!"

Olivia didn’t react. Instead, she leaned in, eyes wide with fake fascination.

"You’ve traveled so much, Uncle Vincent. Tell me about the most unforgettable woman you’ve met."

Vincent’s grin turned sloppy. He drained his glass.

"Year ago, on a job… met this knockout. Looked like a damn Hollywood star."

Olivia’s fingers tightened around her chopsticks. "What did she look like?"

Vincent belched. "Brown wavy hair. Heart-shaped face. Skin like porcelain."

A tremor ran through Olivia’s hands.

"What… happened to her?"

Vincent’s gaze turned distant. "Stubborn bitch. Wouldn’t play along. Had to make her. Dumped her in the middle of nowhere after."

Olivia went deathly pale.

"Did she die?" Her voice cracked.

Vincent smirked. "What do you think? No houses for miles. Cold enough to freeze a man’s bones."
