My Level Zero System

Chapter 341 - 341: The Deep of The Shadow

"Any clues?"In a separate space, the Principal and Ebadon had a short exchange.

In response to the Principal's question, Ebadon shook his head.

"It's not the Sword Family Ancestor. He likely doesn't have that level of strength, nor does he have a reason to do so."

"That is quite difficult, isn't it..."

The Principal sighed.

The matter they were discussing was the sudden attacks on Kanzax Academy's recruitment sessions in the past. Out of nowhere, a group of high-class Magus with Spirit Magic had suddenly appeared to assassinate the participating candidates.

Because this matter was strange, Ebadon himself had to leave the academy to investigate, but he hadn't gathered anything too useful except for one thing: those "high-class Magus" were somewhat odd.

Why say that? Because it was similar to how Ebadon created those golems. In essence, they had surpassed high-class Magus, but they weren't Magus; it was just that a Magus's magic had been imbued into them.

That was why they were all identical.

In short, the "high-class Spirit Magic" of those attackers was bestowed upon them, and only a grand-class Magus could do such a thing. That was also why a group of high-class Spirit Magic Magus could suddenly appear from nowhere.

Fundamentally, there were no high-class Magus at all; they had all been gifted power.

Therefore, for over half a year, Ebadon had been tracing clues regarding the possibility of a grand-class Magus behind the scenes targeting Kanzax Academy. Meanwhile, the Principal remained at the academy to guard against contingencies.

The result was that, aside from the aforementioned suspicion, there was nothing else. Even so, both the Principal and Ebadon were wise individuals; not being able to investigate anything beyond this surface-level information proved that the enemy was deeper in the shadows and more dangerous than they had imagined.

Initially, their suspicions fell on certain individuals in the dark who might have reached the grand-class Magus rank, most notably the Sword Family Ancestor. The Principal had long known how talented Morizion was; if it weren't for being stuck in the new era, he would have become a grand-class Magus long ago.

However, after the recent battle, Ebadon confirmed the one hiding in the shadows was not Morizion. Aside from the fact that his grand-class magic system was Life Magic rather than Spirit Magic, he had also only just stepped into the grand-class a short while ago. He could not have created a group of high-class Spirit Magic Magus and maintained them without end.

Although Ebadon could create thousands of golems as strong as high-class Magus, this was only a short-term form of attack, not the full entrustment of magic to an individual.

To achieve this, the Magus would need to have extremely deep seniority or terrifyingly formidable talent. Someone like that, even within the ranks of grand-class Magus, would be a peak existence, much like the Principal herself.

That was part of the reason why the Principal had accepted Faith's request so easily, while also being determined to protect Faith to the end. She needed to borrow his intellect to deal with this powerful enemy lurking in the shadows.

Of course, the Principal couldn't just drag Faith into this situation without reason, as it was extremely dangerous. Thus, she wanted Faith to at least become a high-class Magus first, so he would have the strength to protect himself.

...

Adia Inner City.

After the Sword Family Ancestor Morizion left without a word, the meeting to partition resources continued, but few focused on the matter. Everyone was calculating what to do next, especially regarding their attitude toward the Sword Family.

Nevertheless, none of this concerned Kain anymore. He was taken back to the mansion that had hosted them previously by the high-class Magus of the Egretta family.

There, Mera was already waiting.

Seeing that he had returned, Mera did not hesitate to run over and hug him tightly.

"Are you okay?"

"I'm fine. How is Myra?"

"She is sleeping... Wait, you know Myra has been released?"

"Yeah, it's a bit complicated. I'll tell you about it later."

But just as Kain and Mera were about to head back to their room, the high-class Magus called him back.

"Young man Kain."

"Sir?"

"I see you seem to have quite a few questions. How about this: after lunch, you can come to my study, and I will try to answer them for you."

"Really?"

Kain's eyes changed. Having a deeply experienced high-class Magus volunteer to answer his questions was far better than anything else.

"This is what you deserve."

Although Morizion's appearance had changed the situation, Kain's contribution to the resource distribution game was undeniable. Since Kain didn't care much for money, the high-class Magus decided to give him a different reward.

In this case, it was knowledge.

Seeing this, Kain felt much more alert, and his pace couldn't help but quicken slightly.

Back in the room, Kain briefly explained Faith's plan to Mera. Her scalp tingled as she listened. Not only had he dragged Kain into a game of wits, but that blonde-haired man also wanted to use this game to escape the Sword Family while dragging the entire family down into a deep pit. Such plotting left Mera with nothing to say except to gape in shock.

Is this person even human?

If it weren't for Morizion appearing with overwhelming power, Faith's plan would have succeeded.

"Kain, do you think... later on, I could do something like that too?"

As she asked this, Mera's hand clenched slightly.

Kain knew exactly what she meant.

Faith had used his intellect and the meager strength of a mid-class Magus to nearly pull down a powerful force that had stood tall for many years. As for Mera, her goal was the force currently pursuing her and her mother.

Mera knew that if she wanted to rely on strength to destroy those people, it would be as difficult as reaching the heavens. It would take a very long time, and she might not even ever reach a level sufficient to do so. So, could she use a scheme—a shortcut—to topple such a powerful force?

Regarding Mera's question, Kain's answer was that it was possible, but the difficulty was not much different from her own cultivation of magic to a level high enough to wipe out that force.

Faith himself was a member of the Sword Family, possessing extremely detailed information about the family and its position, and he had spent many years setting up the layout. Only with that amount of preparation and calculation could he almost pull the family down, and even then, he was on the verge of success only to fail.

Meanwhile, Mera knew absolutely nothing about that other force. The few things she did know were too fragmented; she fundamentally couldn't reach them. Not to mention, Kain had a premonition that the other force was even stronger than the Sword Family.
