His hand froze in midair, panic flickering behind his eyes for just a second before he shut it down.
He flashed me a sly, mysterious grin. "How'd you know I got you something?"
His gaze stayed locked on me, probing for a reaction.
I gave a slight, knowing smile. If he wasn't ready to come clean, I could wait for the truth to show itself on its own.
After all, I was fresh out of second chances.
If he'd been straight with me, we might've ended things like civilized people.
But now? My conscience was clear.
While he was at the office, I planted the hidden cameras in the living room and bedroom—equipment I'd picked up weeks before.
If I didn't have proof, I'd just have to make my own.
Proving he cheated would give me the upper hand when it came to the divorce—the money, the house, custody of our child.
I invited my best friend over that weekend and told her I had a present for her.
"Sophia, you're the best!" she squealed through the phone, practically buzzing with excitement.
I smiled coldly. Was she that excited about the gift—or just eager to see her secret lover?
The weekend rolled around, and—lucky me—my husband had the day off.
My best friend showed up right on time. I'd set the scene perfectly: wine chilled, dinner almost ready.
"Just one more thing in the oven—make yourself at home," I said with a warm smile before ducking into the kitchen.
I knew her too well. She thrived on risk.
Sure enough, when I pulled up the surveillance feed, they were already all over each other on the couch, kissing like teenagers.
By the time I brought out the food, they were sitting a polite distance apart, acting like casual acquaintances.
Pathetic. The act wouldn't hold.
I'd poured the wine earlier. Since I was still breastfeeding, I encouraged them to drink up.
Right on cue, my phone rang.
"Mom? What's wrong?"
"Okay—okay, I'll come now."
I turned back to them with perfectly feigned concern. "It's the baby—she won't stop crying. I have to go check."
"What? I'll come with you," my husband said, already half-standing.
I stopped him. "You've been drinking. Don't drive. She's probably just hungry—you can't help with that."
I didn't wait for a reply. I grabbed my purse and walked out.
Inside the car, I opened the live feed and watched with ice in my veins.
I'd taken the baby to my mom's earlier. The call was staged. Everything was going exactly to plan—now it was just a waiting game.
At first, they were careful. But once my husband noticed the old security camera was gone, his hesitation vanished.
"You think Sophia will be back soon?" he asked, still a little on edge.
My best friend laughed. "Relax. That baby is her entire world. She won't be back for an hour. We can make this quick…"
They moved from the couch to the bedroom—just like I knew they would.
The moment they finished, I saved the recording. This was everything I needed.
Their whispered affections turned my stomach. I was about to close the app when a familiar name caught my ear.
"So," my best friend murmured, "when is Julian making his move?"
