Gloria locked herself in the bedroom for a long time. When she went out, drops of blood were on her pale lips, which betrayed her struggling heart.
Everything returned to the past.
Gloria walked to the living room expressionless and lay on the sofa in silence with a blanket.
Patrick stood uneasily aside. He looked helpless and pitiful.
"From now on, you are not allowed to enter the bedroom," Gloria said coldly.
Patrick panicked. He asked anxiously, "Gloria, did I do something wrong? So, you don't like me anymore."
Gloria looked down at the hem of her clothes in his palm. Mandy's words echoed in her ears.
She reached out and pulled back her clothes and walked back to the bedroom.
She left behind a ruthless back for Patrick. However, when she turned her back to him, she began to shed tears.
Why did she cry?
She didn't want to think about it, nor did she have the strength to think about it.
The night ended silently, and things were getting worse.
The first ray of sunlight shone into the room.
Gloria opened the door, and a person fell in.
Gloria closed her eyes and ignored the pain in her heart.
"I'm going to work." She said to Patrick, who was lying on the ground. "I will deliver the keys to Stewart. Don't run around again. If you are hungry, there is food in the fridge."
After that, she changed her clothes, took her backpack, and rushed out of the house without breakfast.
When she arrived at the Carter Group, Mandy was shocked to see her. "Miss Carter?"
"Give me the proposal to cooperate with Mr. Norman. I have to reconsider some details," Gloria said.
"But..." Mandy hesitated.
"I think they will be pleased to see a proposal which can bring more profits for both sides. Mandy, in this world, no one will refuse the money."
Mandy was shocked.
It was not Gloria's style!
"Alright..." Mandy stuttered and turned to leave.
She wanted to pull Gloria out of the whirling vortex of emotion. But when she heard Gloria talk about money in front of her, she was at a loss.
In the office, Gloria was talking to Lucas.
"I have told you about the additional provisions for the partnership. With them, this cooperation will double the benefits for both of us. Mr. Norman, why don't you reconsider it?" Gloria said in a formal tone.
Lucas felt more and more disappointed. He thought, 'Can't we talk about something casual about our lives?'
He replied with a cold face, "Miss Carter, I will think about the plan you mentioned. I still have something to deal with today. I'll take my leave." Without waiting for Gloria's reply, he strode away.
He walked quickly and urgently, as if he was fleeing in a panic.
Mike saw that Lucas had rushed back in a hurry.
Lucas walked to the wine cabinet, opened the glass door, and picked up a bottle of whiskey rudely without looking at it. He opened it and gulped it down. In a few seconds, half a bottle was gone.
Mike walked over and snatched the bottle from Lucas' hand. "You can't drink like this."
Mike took two steps back and sat on the brown leather sofa. "Tell me, why are you in a panic?"
Lucas stood there, his arm resting on the bar counter, and did not answer for a long time.
Mike was a shrewd businessman and found the key point. "Your secretary said that you went to the Carter Group. Were you defeated?"
Lucas had no intention of speaking at all.
Mike's eyes lit up. "Did she reject you?"
His question provoked Lucas. Lucas suddenly raised his head and shouted, "No!"
Mike propped up his forehead and looked at Lucas with a faint smile.
"Alright." Lucas leaned on the bar counter dejectedly and mocked himself. "You won."
Mike smiled and understood everything.
"But you're wrong. She didn't reject me because I didn't confess my affection to her." Lucas sat in the chair in front of the counter.
"Come on. It's time to let go."
Lucas' eyelids trembled. He wanted to ask why, but Mike had turned around and strode away.
"No!" Lucas suddenly stood up from his chair and shouted at Mike's back, "I won't give up!"
Mike didn't stop. He shook his head with his back to Lucas.
'Lucas couldn't see through his feelings. Just like how I was.'
A bitter smile appeared on Mike's face as he thought so.
"Mike!" Lucas chased after Mike and shouted, "You have to make it clear before you leave!"
Mike stopped and said, "Lucas, do you want me to give you a suggestion? Apologize to her and never see her again."
Mike ignored Lucas, who was frozen in place. Lucas had done a stupid thing. He did the most important thing at the wrong time.
And everything seemed to be unimportant.
Gloria was exhausted when she drove back to the apartment. She did not park the car in the underground garage. Instead, she raised her head and looked up, not knowing how to face Patrick.
Suddenly, the phone rang in the quiet car.
"Come out and have a drink with me."
The familiar voice made Gloria relax. She said cheerfully, "Okay. The same place?"
After hanging up the phone, Gloria put down her phone and turned the car key. She looked up at the brightly lit window upstairs and then drove away.
She stopped at a bar. A waiter led her to a table.
"How are you going?" The person in the seat raised her head. It was Christine, whom Gloria had not seen for a long time.
Gloria smiled, "Christine, just cut to the chase and come straight to the point, or I'll feel awkward."
"Alright, I won't tease you." Christine said directly, "Do you still remember Derrick?"
Gloria lowered her eyes and said calmly, "The Alpha of the Blood Moon Pack?"
"Yes. A few days ago, I saw him at Fittro Club. He was with Ellison. It is strange."
Gloria lowered her eyes, and her eyelashes trembled slightly. "What did you see?"
"You know, I have been working for Alpha Patrick for many years. And I have a sharp intuition."
Christine put down the wine glass and looked at Gloria intently. "Did something happen to Alpha Patrick?"
Gloria was caught off guard, and her hand trembled. Christine's eyes were fixed on Gloria's hand.
"No, nothing happened to him," Gloria said softly.
"Gloria, you know that I am good at observing." Christine pointed at Gloria. "You can't lie to me."
Gloria lowered her head, and time seemed to freeze.
Christine did not force Gloria but just stared at her.
After a long time, Gloria said, "Nothing has happened."
She trusted Christine, but she could not put Patrick at risk.
She realized that she was not willing to take the risk with him at all.
Christine did not ask more.
She pondered for a moment and continued, "Gloria, I just want to tell you. Ellison and Derrick are planning something against Patrick. Alpha Patrick has not appeared in public for a long time."
Gloria's heart skipped a beat. Even Christine noticed that something was wrong. How about Alex and the others?
Christine finished what she wanted to say. Gloria picked up her bag and left.
