There are so many people I could thank and list for the creation of this book, so many people I feel I really should thank, who have in some small ways, contributed to my journey in writing a novel ready for print. But in doing so, I feel I would be dampening down my appreciation for those who went above and beyond for me when I first set to publishing my very first book. So yes, I want to thank all of you who are in my life and who know who they are. For the patience and encouragement, this wouldn’t have been such a seamless journey without every one of you. However, I know that every one of you will understand my reasons for naming only a few.
So not to put more importance on one person than another, I will list them in the order in which they joined my writing journey.
To Ross, the long-suffering other half of me, your patience, eye rolls and support started me off. From letting me write undisturbed for days to enduring a messy house, microwave dinners, and no end to the lack of clean socks. To telling me you were proud and buying me a pc so that I could write away from my desk! And No, you will never get to read it, so eyes off!
To Jacqui Brough, my little blog best friend, who encouraged me from the moments of query when I raised interest in going back to writing, now that I was an adult with so much time to spare. You were the first to know my intentions, the first to read my raw chapters as I fired them out, and you encouraged me every single step of the way. You fell so hopelessly in love with my story that you gave me the confidence to keep going. You’re my funny girl, my crazy, nuts sister from another mother. Let’s elope!
To Shirin Coglon and Grace Bell, my editors and chiefs, my crazy and strict mentors. You don’t let me away with anything, and you certainly do not let me away with bad writing. You have been my friends for years but my second hand for months. Without your guidance and help, I would still be looking at that manuscript and figuring out what to do with it. Your presence daily keeps me sane, your calming when I’m a whizzing out-of-control bag of impatience, and you know how to offer criticism with a grin. You’re my shadows for life, so get used to it, as I’m sewing us all together.
To my sister Melissa Marshall, the photographer extraordinaire, even though we didn’t find the right time to shoot a cover with your skills, I see it being in our futures. You were one of my first fans before you read a word, and you are my eternal Beta Reader. You keep me inspired and give me good gossip for future scenes!! Ha ha, beware! You’re the lovely girl who will forever push me to keep going, whether you realise it or not. One day we shall share a title, your pictures and my words, and it will be perfection.
To my writing twin, Elle Harvey, for the never-ending long chats, brainstorming and smiles. The endless bags of cakes and tea and the patience of a saint. We shared a journey into writing, and even though we chose our own path in the books we produced, that journey together honed our skills and set us up as book buddies for life. You are the Yin to my Yang! We shall make that book tour to New York and share a pew one day.
To Jessica Meeks, my graphic designer and long-term friend. You are the patient, long-suffering, smiling friend every girl like me needs. You are the secret weapon in my bag of tricks and may you long grace my life with your skills and smiles! You made my book as beautiful as anyone could, your skills have always been second to none, and I trust you with every design task I could ever dream up.
I cannot go on without a thank you to my parents, Jim and Sylvia Marshall, for my first computer at seventeen and the encouragement to write, for understanding that staying up till 5 am pounding a keyboard was normal for a nocturnal creative and for never reading anything I wrote for fear of getting put on the naughty step. Please do not read this one either. I may never be able to look you in the eye again. Ha ha
There are more of you who have contributed in some way to all of you - I thank you immensely. Everyone made this book possible. Everyone gave me more courage to pursue this, and I pushed myself a little more.
