"Amber's missing!"
Dave burst into my office, frantic and out of breath.
I raised an eyebrow.
"So not only is she making a fool of herself—now she's disappeared?
How dramatic."
He jabbed a finger toward me, furious.
"If you hadn't been so harsh on her, she never would've run off!
She's young—you can't keep humiliating her like that in front of everyone!"
He glared. "And you don't even look concerned!"
His finger was way too close to my face.
I grabbed my water bottle and splashed him right in the eyes.
"Feel calmer now?"
I snapped. "Call the police. Why are you even here?"
He wiped his face, scowling, but finally backed down.
"Alright, alright—I'm sorry. I overreacted."
He took a shaky breath. "I'm just worried about Amber.
Maybe if you apologize, she'll come back."
Tomorrow, I'd be free of all this—starting fresh at Leo's firm.
Just to wrap things up without more drama, I grabbed my phone and shot Amber a text:
Meet me on the rooftop of Ming Wah Tower.
A single word came back:
Fine.
Ming Wah Tower was downtown.
I'd already tipped off the cops, so she'd be safe.
"Let's go," I said, shutting down my computer.
"We'll find her."
I slid into the car—and then something hard struck the back of my head.
Everything went black.
