Letting go

Chapter 84

Christian

I've been trying to rack my brain for an answer to Amy's words. Take a walk down memory lane. What the hell does that mean? Molly has only been here a couple of weeks, we have only been together literally a day so I don't know where she's going with it. It has to involve something to do with me and Molly as she's got her but what it is I don't have a clue and it's fucking frustrating. I've tried calling her twice but she's just ignored me. Clearly, she's having way too much fun playing this fucked up game of hers.

I jump when my cell phone starts ringing in my pocket and almost drop the thing as I get it out of my pocket as quickly as possible while praying that it's Amy calling to give me some clues. It's not Amy but it's Tom so hopefully he's got an update for me. "Chris, anything?" Well, I guess he ain't giving me anything new. "Nope, nothing. I can't find her and I can't figure this out!"

I can hear him breathing heavily as if he's running and it's only then that I take a moment to realize that he's suffering in this too. She's his best friend and up until this point I haven't really thought of that, It's only been about the fact that my girlfriend has been taken and not his best friend. Fuck I'm a dick sometimes. "We will find her, Tom." He lets out a loud breath and I can only imagine the look on his face right now. "We will. We have to, Chris!" His sadness quickly turns to anger which is what I need. A pissed Tom is a determined Tom and he doesn't give in easily. "I'm gonna try Amy again, let me know if anything changes."

I end the call with him and instantly it starts blaring out again only this time it's Amy and I want answers. "Tick tock Chris." She sounds so happy and proud of herself that it makes me feel sick. "Where the fuck are you, Amy? Where's Molly?" I know I should probably keep calm but I can't, not anymore. She tuts into the phone like I'm an annoying five-year-old child. "Now, now I don't think that's any way to talk to me is it?" My patience is running really thin... really fucking thin. "Amy stop playing around and tell me what you want and where you are?" I can hear more sounds in the background but nothing that can tell me where she is. "Take a walk down memory lane, Chris, take a walk." She ends the call and I scream out my frustration.

Once more my phone goes off but only this time it's a text. "Get down to the old wood bridge. NOW!" Jack's text message screams at me through my cell screen. I haven't heard from him since he went to look for Dad, actually thinking about it now, I haven't heard from my Dad either which is strange. What's more strange is Jack doesn't know what's going on so that text seems weird. I tried calling him serval times since I first spoke to Amy but he didn't answer and I'd be lying if I said that I wasn't completely confused right now.

The old wood bridge? Fuck the bridge that Molly almost fell off the other day. Fuck is that what she meant by the whole memory lane shit? I quickly call both Callum and Tom and we all run with all we have to get to the bridge. Surly he found them? Why else would he send me that text? Wait... Why the hell would he be over there? I'm confused and slightly on edge but there has to be a reason for it and the sooner I find out the better. Fuck I hope she's there or I'm going to lose my fucking shit... big time.

I'm almost to the bridge when I see both Tom and Callum heading my way and I feel slight relief at knowing that I don't have to face whatever it is that I'm about to alone. “Why are we here, Chris?” They're both confused which makes sense considering I told them both to meet me at the bridge but not why. “I don't know. Jack text me to get to the bridge right now so that's what we are doing. I hope he's fucking found her!”

Without saying another word I take off running pushing myself as hard as I can the last few minutes that it'll take me to get there. I don't bother to look back because I already know that my brothers are right behind me.

We break through the last of the trees and my eyes are drawn straight to the bridge and land directly on Molly. She's standing on the bridge while I can hear Amy screeching, I can also see two other people up there but I'm not sure who they are from here. Maybe Jack's up there? God, I hope he is, he'll keep her safe.

“Molly!” I call out to her and watch as she spins around to face me. I can't see her clearly but just knowing that she's just a few feet away has my heart pounding and me taking off running towards her more than ready to have her close by or even better in my arms again.

As I get closer to the bridge her face becomes clearer and that's when I see the look on her face. She looks terrified, sad, worried and above all else scared. I start walking up the bridge along with Tom and Callum when Molly looks straight at me and I swear I can see tears in her eyes. She shakes her head at me as if she's telling me not to go to her but I don't think she realizes that there's nothing in this world that would stop me from getting to her ever.

She looks away from me and I follow her line of vision only to be left feeling confused as fuck. There standing on the bridge next to Amy and Molly are my Dad, Jack and Zack. I can understand Jack being here and I'm guessing that Zack got the same next as us but what the hell is my Dad doing here? His phone broke in the storm and he hasn't replaced it yet.

“What in the ever-loving fuck is going on here?” Tom shouts as he comes to stand closer to me while I just stand there feeling fear quickly spreading through my body. “Take a look around and figure it out asshole!” Amy has a sly look on her face and it just makes me feel sick.

The moment I look at my dad to thank him for finding my girl my stomach sinks, he looks guilty as fuck but also slightly pissed off and my insides churn as my mind whirls. It can't be! “Dad, why are you here?” A sick realization hits me deep down as I somehow already know the answer but I'm praying that I'm wrong. I would rather live with the guilt of being wrong over this than the reality of it being true. God, please let me be wrong.

He still hasn't answered me and the silence feels like it's suffocating me. “Dad! Why are you here?” Again he remains silent. I turn my attention back to Molly who's looking at me like she's being torn apart and if the look on her face along with the tears that are running down her beautiful face wasn't enough to tear me apart, her next words certainly are. “Chris… I'm... I'm so sorry but your Dad… Chris your dad is involved in this with Amy. He… he.” She can't finish her sentence but I need to hear it.

“He what baby?” I try to sound calm even when I'm feeling anything but. She looks at him once more and the anguish that she is feeling is written all over her face. “It's ok sweetheart. You can tell us.” Tom's words are much more gentle than he feels, that I'm sure of. “He came into the barn and put some sort of bag over my head. He kept me there until Amy phoned him then he brought me here.” She takes a deep breath before looking at me once more. “I'm so sorry I don't know why but he's a part of it and… Chris, so is Jack!”

I listen to every word she says while praying that this is all one massive mistake but the look on my Dad's face just confirms it all. My world feels like it's crumbling, like this bridge is about to collapse and I'm going with it. “Dad?” He looks down at the ground ignoring me completely which only confirms his part in this. "This can't be happening!" I shout while I hear cursing coming from all of my brothers. "This can't be real. Please. Dad, please tell me that Molly has got this wrong. You wouldn't do this!" I know the answers that I want to hear but the longer he remains quiet the less convinced I become that I will get them and deep down I know that the answers I would get if he did answer me would destroy me forever.

Without thinking I lunge forward and grab hold of his shirt. "Dad, look at me!" He continues to look at the floor until I give him a hard shake that has his eyes finally meeting mine. He looks at me before taking his eyes off mine and looking directly behind me and it's at that moment that the last of Molly's words actually register with me. "Wait..." I keep hold of my Dad's shirt while moving us both so I can see him. "You mentioned Jack, Molls?" She nods her head as he takes a step closer to her. "It's not what you think." He starts talking but I cut him off. "Molly, sweetheart. What do you know?"

She gives Jack a quick look before setting her eyes on me. "I don't know much, just that he turned up here on the bridge after we arrived and no one was surprised to see him. But... He hasn't said or done anything... not yet anyway. Zack turned up just after him." Her answer only confuses me more.

"Someone needs to hurry up and tell me what the fuck is going on!" My Body is so full of anger and fear that I'm not sure how much more of either I can take. "DAD!" I shake him again only harder this time but I stop within seconds when I hear Molly gasp and turn around to find that Amy has pulled Molly into her chest and is holding a small knife to her throat. Fuck!

"Amy let her go!" Tom shouts from beside me. She gives him a look of disgust before putting more pressure on the knife causing Molly to cry out. "Don't tell me what to do fag boy! I'm the one in charge here and you will do what I say or she will get hurt. Now Let go of him, Christian!" My Dad doesn't respond in any way when Amy speaks and that is the final straw for me. I let go of his shirt, dropping my hands down to my sides as I try to process the reality that I am facing. "Amy, let her go." Those are the first words that my Dad has spoken since we arrived here but his voice is hollow and gruff and nothing like I'm used to.

She lets out a huff and then rolls her eyes at him like a dramatic teenager. "As long as everyone does what they are told then she won't get hurt but I'm not letting her go until I have what I want!" I'm sick of her game. "And what is it you want, Amy?" She looks at me for a few seconds before that stupid smirk of hers resurfaces once again. "I want all of her money, her business and you back in my bed."

Oh, she has got to be kidding right? What the hell would make her think that any of that would ever happen? "Aint ever going to happen, Amy. Not in this lifetime or the next!" Her face remains calm as she shrugs her shoulders. "Okay." That is all she says right before she pulls her knife away from Molly's throat and pushes her towards the edge of the bridge so quickly that none of us even have a chance to move and as I watch the scene unfold in front of me I swear that my heart stops beating.
