Now that I knew Viktor would be okay, I could give in to what I’ve wanted since seeing the devastation the Elders caused. Now that I knew that Clara would have Viktor, I felt the opposite of what I’ve before at the thought of them together alone. I felt relief. She would make sure he was safe. I turned from Clara and focused on that man I once called father.

Answering to the call of my growing flames I dashed forward. I promised to give them what they wished soon. The need for blood, for sliced skin, and the smell of burning flesh drove me forward. I would have what I desired, I would have my vengeance, my revenge. My anger fanned the flames and they grew hotter than they ever have before. I screamed out in anguish as I rushed toward the man who should have been the father I deserved. He was nothing but a disappointment.

Tears run down my cheeks before they dry up and evaporate. I don’t cry for him or what I’m going to do, no, I’ll revel in my father’s death. The tears continue to flow because I’m the reason that the Elders came here. I’m the reason that this village was attacked, flattened, and destroyed. I’m the reason my people hurt. I’m the reason they’ve died today. I’m the reason this field is stained red. I’m the one who is responsible for Jake’s death. It’s this reason that finally breaks the chains and I’m thrown off the cliff of sanity and dive headfirst into the abyss of insanity.

Charles doesn’t stop or show signs of slowing as he draws close to me and my flames. I know without a shadow of a doubt that nothing will stop him today, nothing but his death. I claw at him, needing to dig my claws into his flesh. I swipe wildly at him, intent on drawing blood. He dodges everyone and it only causes the need to strengthen. I’m so focused on him that I don’t see it.

His claws connect and slide through the flesh on my arm. He hisses as my flames lick at his fingertips. I reach out for him again but he’s quicker still and dodges out of the way. It pisses me off but I won’t stop. I’ll never stop. I let out an infuriated scream as I dart for him again. I don’t have time to react, he ignores his injured fingers and swipes at me again.

Once again, I’m unable to get out of the way fast enough. A cry, not one of pain, but one of anger fills the air as his claws drag from my chest up to the side of my neck. Anger blinds me as I slap his hand away. He cries out in pain as my flames burn his hand. Blood tickles from my open wound and burns as it meets flame. Not letting the pain stand in the way of my revenge, I lunge toward him and grab for him with open palms.

The first thing I want to do, my automatic response is to force fire and lava from my palms, but I know I can’t do that. If I do I’ll kill him quickly, too quickly, and that’s the last thing I want to do. I need to choose my next moves carefully because the wrong move could kill him instantly. I want him to feel pain, I want him to cry out for me. I want him to beg me on his knees, and crawl toward me on his belly while pleading for his life. I want to watch him while he tries to convince me of why I should spare his life even though I have intention of doing that.

A guttural growl fills my throat and escapes as a shrill scream but soon turns into sinister laughter as my fingers grab hold of him. Quickly, I wrap them tightly around his arm, my nails piercing flesh, and my flames burning true. He cries out as his eyes lock with mine and I know what he sees. I stare back at his with wild eyes, I am well aware that I look like a madwoman and maybe I am. I inhale deeply as my touch causes his skin to curl and craw away from me as the flames burn everything I touch. It leaves raw pink skin exposed for me. He thrashes violently and I revel in the pain I cause him. I dig my nails deeper and pierce through the net layer of flesh. His eyes water from the pain but I refuse to let go.

He tries to jerk free but I hold tighter. He growls and slashes at me but I dodge out of the way of his claws. I grab his shoulder and he throws his head back and roars as I clench his flesh and my claws did deep. He tries to jerk away again, but can’t free himself from my grasp. I feel powerful, like a predator, I feel like a lion playing with it’s prey. I know that I’m stronger, I know that I’ll win, I know all it takes is one bite and I’ll end it’s life, but I don’t do that. It would be too quick, too soon, and I want to enjoy this. I want to enjoy his pain.

My wolf has been quiet since she withdrew into the deepest, darkest parts of my mind. She tried to protect herself from everything that has been happening but with his blood on my hands, she stirs. Now that we’ve got him in front of us, now that I crave his death, now that I demand his life, Athena awakens. She pushes forward and I welcome her, but I hold tight on the reigns. I need to do this, I need to be present, I need this more than the air that I breathe.

“You’re sick! You’re insane! I should have killed you before you turned into this,” Charles spat.

“Who made me like this?!” I screamed. “Who drove me to the point of madness?!”
