Kacie
“You’re stupid,” Clara said. “What?” Jade asked.
“You took what the elders said at face value and armed them with warriors? You’ve pitted yourself against us,” Clara said.
“They’re elders, they stand at the top of the world. If anyone can make it happen it’s them. It is the elders and the original alpha that banned us, cursed us,” Jade said.
“You fool,” Nyx cried.
“What?” Jade asked.
“Did you really think they would let you live after doing their bidding? Did you think they wouldn’t see how much power you have, what you can do? Did you think they wouldn’t come after us? Did you think they didn’t know what they were doing when you stepped in for us? You led them straight to us. They’ll use you to get us,” Nyx said.
“That’s not what they’re going to do! I have their word,” Jade said.
“What is the word of men who would have you rip women from their beds and murder children in their homes? Are you really so naive sister?” Nyx asked.
“I thought you of all people would know not to trust men. You know as much as we do, if not more what men are capable of. Look what you’ve done, Jade. Really look,” Clara said.
For the first time since the attack happened, since the battles broke out, Jade looked around the field through the eyes of her sisters. Blood stained the grass red, dismembered body pieces were scattered all over the field, and children stared with un-staring eyes. Her eyes widened as realization finally dawned at her. She knew what she had done, she knew what she was responsible for, and she knew her fate. She looked back to her sisters and to me. Resignation is what I saw in her eyes. She resigned herself to what she’d done and what that meant for her.
“Just stop. If you stop now we might be able to plead for leniency,” Clara said.
“The price of freedom isn’t worth losing a sister. I reject this plan and I refuse to accept freedom from evil men. They’ll only enslave us, if they don’t kill us,” Nyx said.
“It’s not worth it, Jade,” Clara pleaded.
“It’s too late for me,” Jade murmured.
“Please,” Clara begged.
“Don’t do this. I know you hate me but… don’t accept things for the way they are right now. You choose your fate, you choose how you will live your life, you choose how you leave this world. Will you continue now that you know the evil, the suffering you’re causing? Or will you stop and fight with us?” I asked.
“I can’t—” Jade started.
“But you can,” I said earnestly.
“Please, Jade. I can’t lose you too,” Clara whispered. My heart broke for her. I hadn’t known Jade that long and I hadn’t gotten to know her like I had Clara, but she was my sister too. This would break Clara, she lost both chances at happiness, losing her sister too could break her.
“I won’t stop fighting for my sisters,” Jade said. “I will win freedom for us or I will die trying.”
“Jade,” Clara whispered.
“So you’ve been a spy this whole time,” I said. It wasn’t a question, bit was fact.
“I’ve been working with them since we came here. I tried not to make my thoughts obvious but your Beta picked up on that,” Jade spat.
“I don’t know what to say,” I murmured.
“Don’t bother saying anything. Your words have no effect on me. You, your mate, and your beta can all go to hell,” Jade said.
“Watch what you say about him,” Clara said defensively. Even after being rejected, she felt protective of Jake. I liked and hated it at the same time.
“You still care for him? He rejected you! We don’t get a second chance, our kind is never that lucky! He comes to you and rejects you for the same one who took away your destined! You’re cursed, we’re cursed, she’s cursed!” Jade screeched.
“Jade,” Clara cried.
“Kacie is too dangerous. Now that we know she’s pregnant, now that they know she’s pregnant, they couldn’t wait anymore. This sudden attack happened because she’s carrying. Do you think he loves her, it’s because she might bare his pup! No, she deserves to die. She’s hurt you and in doing so she’s hurt us. I’ve received orders to hurt her, to kill her, and the child in her belly. With her gone, your beta will come crawling back to you. You’ll come to see that what I’ve done, I’ve done for you, for us,” Jade said manically.
Clara’s hands fell to her side in defeat and a tear rolled down her cheek. She looked away from Jade but shook her head and lifted her chin. She raised her eyes to Jade and stared at her. Eyes filled her eyes and continued to stream down her cheeks.
The ground below us rumbled and liquid swarmed over my shoes. The bodies moved, heads, arms, legs, swarmed into a clump beside us. They clustered together and began to form a human the bottom of a golem, but by the size of it’s legs it would be as tall as the dog monster that faced off against Viktor. We couldn’t let it complete itself, we couldn’t let it become whole.
I looked to Nyx and a tear streamed down her cheek as she looked at Jade. Her red hair swayed in the wind atop her head. She stepped forward, putting herself in front of me and Clara. Jade looked at her, sweat dripped from her brow as she conjured her monster. Words fell from Nyx’s lips and spread around us like a wind.
“Pains and aches and evil things,
fly from her on rapid wings,
leave my sister’s body,
and don’t return.
For peace and quiet I yearn for her soul.
Surround my sister in her radiant light.
Cleanse her power pure and white,
Banish forces of the night.
This simple wish is mine to cast.
A magic spell to dispell the pain of our past.
I close my eyes a little shiver,
This wish to me now please deliver,
My sisters hurt as I render her back to dirt.”
