Trapped by Him

Chapter 359

He turned around and left with his assistant, following Cline.

Calvert watched the retreating figures of the Moriarty brothers, surprised that Cline had stepped in to help them.

Then he thought again—maybe Mr. Moriarty also looked down on women who played tricks behind others' backs.

If he happened to witness it, he would stand up for justice as well.

Although he didn't think much of Luana, and although he had just called off the engagement with the Moriarty Group, Calvert didn't think about it further.

He shifted his gaze back to Prunella.

"Apologize," he said.

Herbert, seeing Calvert's anger, asked Prunella what had happened.

Prunella didn't dare to lie anymore and tearfully admitted that she had slapped Luana out of jealousy.

Herbert's initial intention to help Prunella dissipated. He said sternly, "You should apologize."

Lonnie was in the banquet hall entertaining the elders. He was still unaware of what had happened here.

He didn't know that the Moriarty brothers had left, thinking they had just gone to mingle with the younger crowd.

If he found out that Prunella had driven Cline away, he would definitely give her a few more slaps to teach her a lesson.

With Herbert telling her to apologize, Prunella had no choice but to grit her teeth and say "sorry" to Luana.

Her resentful tone and unwilling expression made Calvert even more displeased.

He was about to say something when Luana stopped him. "Mr. Coburn, let's go," she said.

Although Prunella had slapped her, Luana had lost her reputation that night.

Luana decided not to hold a grudge, thinking that giving Prunella a lesson was enough.

If it had been Calvert's fiancée who was slapped today, the entire Adams family wouldn't be enough to make amends.

However, Prunella was unaware of Luana's thoughts and considered her the culprit behind her own humiliation.

As soon as the banquet was over, she tearfully complained to Lonnie, "Daddy, you have to get justice for me!"

Hearing her whiny voice, Lonnie slapped her without hesitation. "You couldn't keep calm and offended Cline. And now you dare to cry in front of me?"

Prunella's crying stopped abruptly, and she looked at Lonnie in disbelief. "Dad, how could you hit me?"

"If I don't teach you a lesson, you'll never learn. Do you have any idea who Cline is? And the woman Calvert brought with him? One of them controls everything in Los Angeles, and the other wields power in Washington. You've managed to offend both of them!"

Lonnie was so angry that his face turned pale, and he trembled all over. If Herbert hadn't stopped him, he would have given Prunella another severe scolding.

Prunella couldn't believe that Lonnie, who always doted on her, would hit her for the sake of someone else. She ran out, covering her face in anger.

Seeing Prunella storm off in a huff, Herbert hurried after her.

The Adams family's matchmaking banquet had turned into a chaotic and well-known mess.

Meanwhile, Calvert led Luana out of the estate.

Stanley hadn't returned with the car yet, so Calvert waited with Luana at the entrance.

Luana glanced down at his hand and casually pulled hers away.

The moment her hand slipped from his, a fleeting look of disappointment crossed Calvert's face.

"Mr. Coburn, thank you for standing up for me," Luana said, her voice polite but distant.

Hearing her cold tone, Calvert's disappointment deepened.

He looked at her slightly swollen cheek and said apologetically, "I'm the one who should apologize. If it weren't for me, you wouldn't have been hurt."

Luana dismissed it with a casual, "It's okay."

A slap was nothing compared to the kicks he had given her before.

Seeing that she wasn't very willing to talk to him, Calvert's expression grew even more desolate.

He wanted to say something more, but at that moment, Stanley pulled up with the car.

Calvert had to stop and opened the back door for Luana.

Luana still felt a bit dizzy. As she was about to get in the car, she swayed a little. Calvert quickly supported her waist.

"Miss Hammond, are you alright?" he asked.

Luana shook her head, trying to pull away from his hand, but he insisted, guiding her into the car with one hand on her waist.

Watching the Rolls-Royce drive away, the man in the Koenigsegg crushed his cigarette forcefully.

In the dim light, the cold moonlight shone through the window, casting a pale glow on the man's sharp and handsome features.

His indifferent eyes were like those of a messenger from hell, devoid of any emotion, cold and dark...

Gehrmann, sitting in the back seat, couldn't see his expression but sensed that he was waiting for Luana.

His worried look crept onto his face as he asked, "Cline, why aren't we leaving?"

After a few seconds of silence, the man's cold voice finally spoke, "Waiting for Russell."
