Trapped by Him

Calvert nodded and walked over to the sofa, gently lowering her down.

After sitting up straight, Luana glanced at Calvert and said, "Mr. Coburn, thank you."

On the surface, it was a polite expression of gratitude, but the underlying message was clear—she wanted him to leave.

Calvert felt a bit frustrated inside, but he kept his expression gentle.

"Take a few days to rest at home. You don't need to host me for now," he said before turning to leave.

As he passed the dining area, he noticed a photo on the liquor cabinet.

It was a picture of Luana and Clarissa when they were around seventeen or eighteen, looking young and innocent.

He couldn't help but stop and pick up the photo, noticing that it had been cropped.

Originally, it must have been a group photo of three people, with someone standing next to Luana, but that person had been cut out.

He instinctively thought that the missing person was himself. That thought made him feel a momentary dizziness.

Luana saw him staring at their old photo and quickly spoke up, "Mr. Coburn, did you ask for my permission to look at that photo?"

Calvert was about to recall something when her voice interrupted him.

He snapped back to reality, feeling a bit embarrassed as he looked at Luana and said, "Sorry."

He put the photo back and left.

After Calvert left, Luana couldn't help but glance at the photo again.

It was the only picture Clarissa had kept that was related to Albion.

Clarissa had mentioned that after she moved to Washington, someone had stormed their apartment and destroyed all the photos related to Albion.

Back at the company, Calvert quickly turned on his computer and pulled up the files from five years ago, scrutinizing them over and over.

The timeline and the accounts from the people involved seemed flawless.

But deep down, his gut told him that what Luana had said back then was the truth and that these files were fake.

He furrowed his thick brows and took out his phone, calling Gath.

Gath was about to start a meeting and quickly answered when he saw it was Calvert.

"Calvert, what's up?"

"Gath, I need to ask you something. Did I lose my memory in Los Angeles or after I was taken back to the Coburn family?"

Gath, being his primary doctor, should know all the details.

He was stunned by the question for a few seconds.

"Did you remember something?"

"No, I just feel like something is off."

Gath let out a small sigh of relief on the other end.

"You lost your memory in Los Angeles."

"Did I lose my memory immediately after the car accident?"

Gath didn't expect him to press further and hesitated for a moment before reluctantly admitting, "Yes."

Calvert's face darkened instantly.

He recalled how Luana had come to see him back then.

She had thought he was pretending to lose his memory and blamed her for betraying him.

That's why she had knelt in front of him, explaining over and over that she had only done it to save him.

If he had lost his memory right after the accident, there was no way she would have brought up the betrayal on her own.

This meant he hadn't lost his memory immediately after the crash and had blamed Luana, which was why she was so eager to explain.

He must have lost his memory later, and the cause was something only his brother or someone close to him would know.

The more he thought about it, the more uneasy he felt. His face grew darker, and his grip on the phone tightened unconsciously.

"Gath, I know you're my brother's man and won't tell me everything," he said.

"But one day, I'll regain all my memories. And if I find out you've all been lying to me, we won't even be friends anymore." With that, he hung up.

Everyone around him had been placed by his brother.

Gath was, Stanley was, and even his bodyguard was.

For the past five years, the one thing they had repeated the most was to stay away from Los Angeles.

He hadn't thought much of it before, but now it seemed like they had been trying to prevent him from coming to Los Angeles, probably to keep him from remembering something.

If he hadn't insisted on coming to Los Angeles for work this time, he might have stayed in the dark forever.

Gath stared at the dark screen of his phone, dazed for a long time.

Ten minutes later, he sighed and sent Calvert a message.

"Calvert, I only started treating you after you were taken back to the Coburn family. By then, you had already lost your memory. Your brother said you lost your memory right after the car accident, but I found out during treatment that it wasn't the case. He asked me to keep it a secret from you, but I don't want to lose you as a friend."

When Calvert saw the message, the frustration in his heart slowly dissipated. It seemed Gath still considered him a friend.

Moreover, what Gath said confirmed his suspicion—Luana had been telling the truth back then, and these files were all fabricated.

The only person who could have manipulated and falsified his past was probably his brother, but why would he do that?

Was it because he thought Luana couldn't bring any commercial value to him?

Calvert seemed to understand a bit more now.

But what had caused his memory loss?

And why was Luana so cold towards him?
