Luana gave a noncommittal nod, and Eva's smile deepened at the corner of her mouth.
Without saying much more, she instructed Luana to rest well and then turned to leave the ward.
After Eva left, Luana couldn't hold herself up any longer, closed her eyes, and fell into a deep sleep.
She didn't know how long she had slept, only that the moment she opened her eyes, she saw Cline sitting beside her.
He was wearing a black turtleneck sweater, and under the sunlight, his skin appeared fair, with features as if painted.
The noble and refined aura he exuded made people hesitant to desecrate or approach him too closely.
His slender fingers held a report. With his long eyelashes lowered, he flipped through the pages one by one.
His expression while reading the report was unchanged, which suggested that Eva had created a fake report for him.
Eva had not only kept her secret but also prepared a fake report without needing her to worry about anything.
But hadn't Cline already left? Why was he still sitting by her bedside?
Luana tried to sit up but immediately felt a sharp pain in her back as she moved.
"Don't move around," Cline said, his expression turning cold as he saw her waking up and fidgeting.
He reached out and helped her turn to her side to avoid touching her wounds.
With his help, Luana slowly adjusted her position.
She was so thirsty and wanted water...
She glanced at Cline, seeing his perpetually frosty expression, and decided to keep her thoughts to herself.
She reached out for the water cup beside the bed and noticed that the blood on her hands had been cleaned off and that she was now wearing a hospital gown.
"What do you need?"
Cline's indifferent yet slightly gentle voice came from above before she could think further about who had helped her.
"Water..." she replied.
Cline picked up the water cup beside her, reached around her waist to lift her upper body, and helped her drink.
Luana was taken aback for a moment, her suspicious eyes staring straight at him, as if trying to detect any change in his expression.
He, however, remained expressionless, as indifferent and distant as usual, though his gaze was a bit gentler than before.
After she finished drinking, Cline slowly lowered her back down, so gently that Luana almost doubted whether the man in front of her was an imposter.
"You..." she wanted to ask what was going on with him, but Cline looked at her face earnestly and said, "I've already ordered people to find a heart that matches yours. Just wait a little longer. I will do everything in my power to cure you."
His words were like a warm current, slowly flowing into Luana's heart and giving her a glimmer of hope.
If she didn't know she was in the late stages of heart failure, she might have smiled and sweetly replied, "Okay, I'll wait for you."
But she couldn't make such a promise to him and instead replied tactfully, "I've been looking for a heart for many years and haven't found one. You shouldn't hold out too much hope. I can survive on medication..."
As soon as she finished speaking, Cline's face turned cold instantly.
"I said I will cure you, so stop refusing," he said sternly, pulling the blanket over her and then picking up the report again to sit beside her.
His thick, long eyelashes were lowered, hiding his eyes and making it impossible to see the emotions hidden within.
But the slight furrow between his brows hinted at a faint sense of unease, so subtle that it was almost imperceptible.
He was always very good at controlling his emotions. Luana couldn't read him at all, so she stopped guessing and lay there obediently.
It was rare for them to have such quiet moments together. It seemed that in the past five years, he had never stayed by her side like this.
Sometimes Luana wondered what place she held in Cline's heart.
If she was just a substitute, then why couldn't he stop coming to find her after they separated?
Just this time, he had taken her from Calvert's arms in front of so many people.
After such a long separation, was it because of his mental disease that he felt uneasy and did this?
Or perhaps... he actually had some feelings for her?
She didn't dare to mention the word "love." A man like Cline would never easily fall in love with someone.
Moreover, he was a hidden Alpha.
As a werewolf, even if he couldn't find his mate, he wouldn't choose a wolfless werewolf to be his mate.
While she was lost in these random thoughts, the vibration of her phone interrupted her.
Cline took out his private phone, glanced at the number displayed, and then answered the call.
"Mr. Moriarty," came Russell's respectful voice from the other end.
"The surveillance has been taken care of. No one else will know about Miss Hammond's existence."
"Also, after you left with Miss Hammond yesterday, Calvert fainted on the spot, so I had to take him to the city hospital."
Cline responded with a flat "Mm," and asked, "Is he awake?"
Russell replied, "He just woke up and has been demanding to see Miss Hammond. What should I do...?"
