Trapped by Him

Chapter 396

Feb 22, 2026 394 / 398

Calvert seemed to have lost the strength to speak, only managing a faint nod.

Clarissa knew his stubborn nature from childhood. Trying to persuade him to leave would be futile. So she steeled herself and told him the truth.

"Every time Luana is taken away by Cline, she won't be back in less than two or three days. You can't just keep squatting here, can you?"

Judging by his reaction, it seemed he already knew who Luana had sold herself to back then.

Since that was the case, there was no harm in telling him the truth. He wouldn't stand a chance against that man anyway.

Clarissa's words hit Calvert like a sledgehammer, delivering a fatal blow.

"Every time?" he asked incredulously, his bloodshot eyes slowly turning towards Clarissa. "For these five years... she's been with Cline?"

"Mm-hmm," Clarissa replied indifferently. That single word, however, almost caused Calvert to collapse.

He had thought she had only sold herself once, but the reality was that she had been with that man for five years.

No wonder Cline looked at Luana with such possessiveness—they had been together for so long.

What was he supposed to do now?

He had loved her for fifteen years... from the first stirrings of young love to the deep affection he felt before losing his memory. This love was almost etched into his very being.

He loved her so much that he would rather die in a car accident than have her submit to another man to save him.

The thought of Luana lying beneath another man, being dominated by him, was unbearable.

That was why he had gone mad with accusations when he learned she had sold herself to save him.

He couldn't bear it, not even once, let alone for five whole years...

His Luana, the girl he had cherished so much that he couldn't bear to touch her, had been with Cline for five years...

His heart spasmed and clenched tightly, the pain radiating through his entire body. Everything went black, and he suddenly fainted.

Seeing Calvert collapse right in front of her, Clarissa was startled and quickly called the security guards to help take him to the hospital.

By the time she had settled Calvert in the hospital and came out, it was already dark.

With a sigh of resignation, she took out her phone and sent a message to Luana.

"Luana, you should come to the hospital to see Albion as soon as possible. He seems to have something very important to tell you."

Luana took a deep breath upon reading the message.

What could be so urgent that Calvert needed to see her so badly?

She glanced at her physical condition. Although she had taken the special medication, its effects hadn't kicked in yet.

Especially her new injuries on her back, which throbbed with pain at the slightest movement. Even if she wanted to leave, she couldn't walk at the moment.

After some thought, she replied to Clarissa with "I'll come as soon as I can" and put down her phone, looking at Cline, who was helping her remove the IV needle.

She had been on IV drip all day, and it had only finished in the evening.

During this time, the person who had helped change the bottles, fed her, and given her water had been Cline.

Technically, the servants could have done these tasks, but he insisted on taking care of her himself.

Luana watched the man bustling around and thought that he was doing all this just to get her healthy again, so he could satisfy his own needs.

This thought was like a bucket of cold water poured over her, making her forget that Cline had a severe mental disease over women. For someone with this condition, it was impossible for him to touch her if he thought she had slept with Calvert.

As Cline removed the needle, his slender fingers pressed against the back of her hand.

The moment he pulled out the needle, she quickly withdrew her hand. Her action of avoiding contact was glaringly obvious to Cline.

He glanced at her coldly with his icy eyes.

"Which part of your body haven't I touched? What are you dodging for?" His questioning tone was laced with disdain, a typical way he spoke.

In the past, Luana had found him domineering and overbearing, but now she felt he had never truly valued her.

Luana pursed her lips tightly, not responding to him, her pale face tinged with a hint of desolation.

Cline raised his fingers and pinched her chin forcefully, making her look at him.

"Want to go see Albion?"

Hearing the name Albion from his lips again, Luana's heart jolted.

She quickly realized that he must have seen her reply to Clarissa's message just now.

Luana had originally planned to wait until she could walk before bringing up the topic of leaving.

Since he brought it up first, it was the perfect opportunity to broach the subject.

"He must have some urgent matter to discuss with me. Could you please send me to the hospital?" she asked.

"Keen to see him?" Cline looked down at her from above, his finely chiseled face appearing cold and menacing under the light, sending a shiver down her spine.

"Mm-hmm," Luana nodded slightly, even though she was a bit afraid of him.

Even if it wasn't to see Calvert, she needed to leave as soon as possible.

Cline was about to get engaged to Runa, and it wasn't appropriate for her to spend the night at his house.

She had been momentarily swayed by the tenderness he had shown earlier, forgetting that he had a fiancée.

Now fully awake to the reality, she felt she shouldn't entangle herself further with a man who was already engaged.

Her expression was calm, but her eyes betrayed a hint of urgency, as if she couldn't wait to leave.

Seeing this, the complex emotions that had been swirling deep in Cline's eyes gradually faded, replaced by a frosty coldness.
