"What happened?" Cline's expression gradually turned cold, as if a layer of frost had formed in his eyes. "Did Calvert do this?"
Luana quickly shook her head and said, "No, it was Travis..."
Cline's eyebrows furrowed sharply. "Explain in detail," he demanded.
Luana had no choice but to recount everything that had happened at the hotel to him.
Upon learning that she had bled not because of any intimacy with Calvert, Cline's tightly knit brows eased slightly. However, when he heard that she had almost been raped by Travis's bodyguards, his brows furrowed again even more tightly.
Without any hesitation, Cline took out his phone and made another call, saying, "Take care of Travis."
Bert, who received the call, quickly replied respectfully, "Yes, Mr. Moriarty."
Luana watched Cline as he made the call, feeling somewhat shocked that he would help her deal with Travis.
Was it because he knew the woman he had been with was almost touched by someone else, or was it because he cared about her?
Luana, recalling Travis mentioning Bert from the Moriarty Group, couldn't help but ask, "Is Bert your man?"
Upon hearing this, Cline's expression didn't change much, but his eyes flickered slightly. He gave a slight nod in response.
Seeing his nod, Luana's face darkened. Travis had accused her of teaming up with Bert to screw him over and even suspected that Bert was Mr. Night.
What did this mean?
She wanted to ask Cline, but she didn't want him to know that she had slept with Mr. Night.
She was afraid that Cline would get angry, think she was promiscuous, and even more afraid that he would insult her, so she didn't dare to speak up.
Cline looked at Luana's pale face and reached out. He touched her cheek gently and said, "Bear with it for a little longer."
His broad palm almost covered her small face. His fingertips repeatedly caressed her skin, giving Luana an illusion that the man in front of her seemed to care about her, couldn't bear to see her hurt, and treated her as if she were the apple of his eye.
Cline, seeing her wide eyes staring at him in disbelief, suddenly came to his senses, released her, and quickly walked out.
Through the ward's glass, Luana saw him seemingly instructing the doctor named Eva to check her back first.
Soon, Eva came in with a bunch of instruments and, under Cline's watchful eyes, began examining the injuries on Luana's back.
"Your back has soft tissue contusions. I'll apply some pain-relieving ointment first. You'll have to endure a bit of pain," Eva said, taking out a jar of ointment, scooping some onto her palm, rubbing it between her hands, and then applying it to Luana's back.
Eva's technique was very gentle, but even the slightest touch caused Luana excruciating pain, making her break out in a cold sweat.
Cline stepped forward and held her trembling shoulders. The warmth from his palm helped Luana grit her teeth and endure the pain.
After a bout of heart-wrenching pain, Eva drew several tubes of blood from her for testing.
After all this fuss, Luana was exhausted and closed her eyes, wanting to drift off to sleep, but she still looked at Cline uneasily.
"Mr. Moriarty..." she forced her eyelids open and looked at Cline, who was sitting by the bed and watching over her, "could you let Mr. Coburn go first?"
Seeing that she was still thinking about Calvert even in this state, Cline's eyes, which had softened a bit, instantly turned cold again.
"Take care of yourself first!" With that, he got up and left without looking back.
Watching his cold and distant figure disappear from sight, Luana sighed weakly.
Cline was still the same, indifferent and ruthless...
After Eva finished the blood tests and returned to the ward with the report, she didn't see Cline.
Thinking he had left, she handed the report directly to Luana, who was lying in the hospital bed.
"Miss Hammond, your heart failure is very severe. Why don't you stay in the hospital for treatment?"
Luana, who had dozed off several times, still forced herself to sit up and reach out to take the report from Eva.
"Hospital treatment is just waiting to die in a different place..." Her voice was filled with endless despair, as if she had already made peace with the idea of facing death.
Eva had seen many patients who couldn't be saved and didn't have much emotional fluctuation.
However, since Luana was a woman brought by Mr. Moriarty, Eva cared a bit more about her.
"Does Mr. Moriarty know about your condition?"
Luana shook her head.
Seeing her reaction, Eva understood.
"Shall I tell him?"
This question actually surprised Luana.
She had thought Eva would tell Cline directly, but instead, she was asking for her opinion first.
"Can you not tell him?"
"Sure."
After nodding, Eva made a request, "But you have to tell me, what is your relationship with him?"
She had never seen Cline care so much about a woman before, which piqued her curiosity.
Luana replied indifferently, "I used to be a substitute for his first love. Now... we have no relationship at all."
Eva smiled, "First love? You mean Runa?"
