Kacie
The quiet scraping of the slow unlocking threatened to give send me into full panic mode when the click of the lock sounded. I gulped and braced myself for Ken’s return as the door opened. I never thought I’d say this but I’ve never been so happy to see Clara. I was so relieved I could have cried.
She stood in the doorway, her hand on the doorknob as her eyes scan the room. When they land on me I could swear I saw a hint of pity in her gaze before a cool mask of indifference slipped into place.
She strode over to the bed and leaned down toward me. She gripped my arm and pulled me up until I was sitting. Her eyes scan down my body and a small frown pull down on her lips.
“You look like shit,” Clara says.
My mouth is still full of whatever material he used to silence me. I could respond with all the vile words I want to throw at her but I already know they’d come out muffled. I decide on rolling my eyes for effect.
“Would you like to shower before breakfast?” She asks with a knowing look.
I nod my head and stare anywhere but in her direction.
“I’ll grab you some clothes before you go in,” she says as she turns around and makes her way to the dresser. I watch her fumble around. Her movements become peeved and she huffs and grabs a few items.
When she turns around she’s got a look of disgust on her face. I look at the items in her hands and see a red silk pajama top and shorts. The irony.
I laughed.
The last thing I put on at home was a matching silk top and shorts. I couldn’t help but wonder how many times had I excitedly put on my silk pajamas to get into bed with Viktor.
It’s funny how a pair of clothing can give me comfort one day and give me a gut-churning feeling another day. I guess it just depends on the situation.
I doubt I’d ever look at silk the same way again, hell I wouldn’t wear it ever again.
Clara following my gaze and nodded before her eyes met mine. “They’re the least revealing of everything in there,” she says, nodding back at the dresser. “You don’t want to see what he’s got in there for you.”
I’m gagged. I literally can’t respond. I continue to stare at her.
A small smile pulls at the corner of her lip. She puts her hand on her hip and a look of amusement crosses her features.
“You know… you’re a lot easier to talk to when you can’t respond,” Clara giggles.
Oh, I could respond. I have a lot of words for you witch.
Clara disappears into the bathroom and turns the water on. When she comes out she leans against the wall and crosses her arms in front of her chest.
“Well? Your hands are bound but your feet work. Everything you need is inside.”
I move my legs until they dangle over the bed. I shift until I’m on the edge and hop up onto my feet. I feel weak from the wolf’s bane but I’m stubborn enough to do what I need to do.
I make my way to the bathroom door when Clara blocks my path. I fight the urge to roll my eyes as I stare at her. What now?
Clara lifts her hand and reaches out to touch me. Before I can move back she grabs the material and pulls it until it’s out of my mouth. I move my jaw around to try and loosen up the stiffness from having it in my mouth all night.
Her eyes lowered to my wrists and with a flick of her fingers, they dropped into her hands.
“I don’t think I have to say this but you’re weak right now. If you fight me, I will hurt you,” she says. I stare at her refusing to admit that I was weak to the point of being close to struggling to stay upright.
I wouldn’t say thanks. She held my gaze for a few seconds before she moved out of the way and I went into the bathroom. It wasn’t until I closed the door behind me that I reached out to grab something to keep me steady.
I slipped off the horrid dress. The water was on and the steam was filling up the room and starting to fog up the mirrors. I felt disgusting and dirty from last night. I could still feel his body against mine and his breath on my skin.
After I showered and dressed I found Clara waiting for me in the room when I opened the door. She didn’t look at my outfit she turned and I followed her out into the hall. She led me into the dining room where I noticed a few guards standing around the room.
The wall that I’d burned down yesterday was restored and the table looked as if it were brand new. There wasn’t a single scorch mark anywhere.
Nothing was out of place. How could this be possible? I looked around the room at the guards and the few waitresses that stood nearby.
My eyes shot to Clara as she took a seat at the table and I stared in awe at her for a few minutes before she motioned for me to sit. I picked my jaw off the floor and schooled my expression.
Nice going.
I walked around to the other side and sat across from her. I held my head high and stared at her and ignored the sweet aroma coming from the table. My stomach growled and I looked away in defeat.
Dammit.
I wish I could hear Athena. The wolf’s bane was doing a good job of weakening me and suppressing her. The rest of the day passed between walking to the room and walking to the dining room for meals.
