"What is it?" Patrick finally put the document away. He raised his eyebrows elegantly and glanced at Gloria.
"Is Lillian alright?" Gloria asked cautiously.
No matter how good-tempered Patrick was now, he couldn't hold back after hearing Gloria's question.
"Gloria, are you being too hypocritical? Look at you. How can you be concerned about someone else when you are in such a condition?" Patrick said angrily.
Gloria bit her lips and looked at Patrick seriously. "Mr. Hammond, you were wrong. I want to plead for her by asking you to spare her life and not torture her. As for the rest, Mr. Hammond, you can do whatever you want."
"I thought that you were so hypocritical that you could be friends with people who hurt you so much." Patrick snorted. He was blatantly mocking Gloria.
Gloria did not refute him. She looked at Patrick seriously and said, "She is your employee. Mr. Hammond, you can punish her, but I ask you to spare her life. If Lillian offends you again in the future, you can punish her however you want. I promise that I will never plead for her again."
Gloria emphasized once again, "I do not want to owe another person my life."
It was like she was carrying a huge debt.
Patrick looked at the woman on the bed with a complicated expression.
"Did you admit it, Gloria? Did you finally admit that you owed someone else your life? Gloria, you held back and refused to admit it three years ago, then don't do this three years later after you leave prison. You can't stand the struggle in your heart anymore, can you?"
Patrick's tone carried ridicule and disdain.
Gloria looked down. Her eyelashes covered the indifference in her eyes and also blocked everything in the world.
If Patrick had said these words to her three years ago, she would have explained no matter what.
But today, she would not do it.
Gloria no longer had a wolf, and she had lost her pride and confidence as well.
She just happened to have the same name as the Alpha's beautiful girl in the Silver Spring Pack.
"Say something. I told you to speak. Don't you have something to explain?" Patrick looked at Gloria with a cold face.
There was a hint of expectation in his eyes that he didn't even notice. He was expecting her explanation.
He might let go if she explained herself.
However, Gloria didn't do it.
Three years ago, she was tied up in the square of the Black Thorn Pack and was soaked in the cold rain for a whole night.
She only asked for five minutes to explain it to Patrick.
On that day, he didn't give her the chance. He threw Gloria out of the car and sent someone to lock her up in the werewolf prison.
What to explain after three years?
"I've been in prison and endured the punishment," Gloria spoke slowly, but her coarse voice made people feel uncomfortable. She continued, "It's pointless to explain myself now."
Her gaze fell on Patrick. She looked into Patrick's eyes and asked, "Mr. Hammond, do you want to put me in prison again? How long will it be? Three years, five years? Ten years?"
She still had indifference in her eyes, as if this important thing meant nothing to her.
Patrick's face was tense. He narrowed his eyes at the woman on the bed with inexplicable anger.
"Your explanation won't work because you have admitted that you owe someone your life." Patrick's eyes were cold. "Then, how are you going to repay the debt?"
"Is it enough to pay my life for the debt?" Gloria said flatly.
She did not say that her debt had nothing to do with Gabrielle again.
Because she had said it, but Patrick didn't believe her.
Patrick looked at Gloria's cold and indifferent expression. He didn't know what to say, so he fell silent.
"Mr. Hammond, what time is it?"
"5:30."
Gloria nodded and said, "I have to go to work."
As she spoke, she lifted the quilt and was about to get off bed.
Patrick held her down. "I grant you sick leave."
"I don't need it."
Patrick narrowed his eyes. "You don't need it? Gloria, don't you know what is missing from your body? Don't you need to rest? Hmm?"
Gloria felt as if she had been struck by lightning!
Her eyes widened and she clenched her fists.
But even so, she was still unable to stop her hands from trembling.
Patrick actually said it!
He told her what she didn't want others to know in front of her!
And he was the one who started this!
"Mr. Hammond, of course, I know what's missing! I don't need you to remind me!" Even Gloria's breathing was uneven and her eyes were bloodshot. "Thanks to you. You don't have to remind me of how I accepted it again and again!"
She felt anger, pain, and discomfort!
Gloria thought, 'Patrick, this is the pain you caused me, but you rubbed it in!'
Patrick's heart skipped a beat. He said, "Gloria, it doesn't matter whether you believe me. There is a misunderstanding."
Misunderstanding?
Gloria looked at Patrick. He said that this matter was a misunderstanding.
"Mr. Hammond, do you want to say that this matter has nothing to do with you and that you don't know about this, right?" Gloria didn't know whether to laugh or cry. She just felt pain in her heart. "Mr. Hammond, do you believe it yourself? Who would dare to do such a thing to me without your permission?"
Patrick was stunned. Gloria was right. Without his permission, no one dared to hurt her.
Was it like what Sean had said? Patrick's attitude to her and that matter determined her life in those three years.
Was that why those people treated her so badly?
Patrick looked up at her and said, "If I say..."
"You don't have to say anything. I believe everything you say anyway," Gloria said with a smile.
Was it important whether she believed it or not?
Patrick noticed the distrust on Gloria's face. He clenched his fists and choked back the words of explanation.
