Irritation and frustration filled my mind and caused my body to tense up. We hadn’t been home that long but already I needed a break, needed one. I was more stressed than I was trying to let on but I could only hold back so much. We’d been through a lot in the last couple of days and I could feel myself getting closer and closer to the edge.

As soon as we came home, we were fucked two different ways and not in the fucking way I’d like. Goddess, how I’d like to get a moment alone with Viktor and Kacie. A large group of rogues had attacked different sections of our pack and a pack of witches showed up.

The witches came to our aid but it didn’t do anything about the suspicion that oozed from my body. I trusted my gut and since Clara had first arrived, my gut screamed danger.

When she arrived with two other witches warning bells were going off. Alarms that couldn’t be ignored. I knew what they promised and I knew how it could help.

I knew from the look on Kacie’s face, the hope she placed in them but I couldn’t bring myself to trust them. I never would. Their arrival left a bitter taste in my mouth and I didn’t care if they knew it.

Their arrival brought questions, concerns, and thoughts that I wasn’t sure I knew how to answer. The first half of my day was gloomy and the clouds threatened to rain down on the Eclipse Pack.

The three of us stood as we watched the warriors break off into teams. The silence so loud I was sure the warriors would hear it.The wind whistled, clothes and hair flew in the same direction.

Jade, the blonde, said something sexual about one of the men and I didn’t bother hiding the look of disgust as it spread across my face. She held nothing back as she eye fucked them.

There was something about her that made my blood boil. Her snide remarks put me on edge. She didn’t care about her facial expressions and held my eye contact while she glared.

She turned back to the warriors and her eyes twinkled with excitement. I scoffed, ignoring me, she watched them as they collided and began fighting.

Nyx called dibs on a couple of the men for Clara and Jade whined, actually whined. Nyx laughed at Jade’s reactions, her anger, and her fit. She insisted that Clara had to be present in order to claim anyone. Jade insisted he was her destined and Nyx told her not to play that card.

Jade asked her what she’d do about it and Nyx told her she’d have them joined by nightfall. I didn’t know this was a dating service. Jade didn’t say anything to that and I smiled in satisfaction. To think I’d see Jade speechless.

After almost half a day passed while watching the witches salivate over the warriors, I was ready to call it quits. I had more important things to do. Viktor and Jamie were scouring through the territories gathering Deltas. I needed to be by their side when they patrolled the rest of the territory. Instead, I was here babysitting.

Thankfully they didn’t want a tour of the territory or the packhouse. I had to stop myself from jumping up in the air. When Kacie volunteered me earlier, I had to bite my tongue from rejecting her.

Spending the day with them was the last thing I wanted to do. Now that I’d done my duty as Beta of the pack, I was ready to bow out and get as far away from them as I could.

I knew Kacie’s reason behind her actions, she wanted me to get to know them better. That didn’t happen and even being by their side didn’t warm me up to their presence either.

After half a day in their company, I still wanted nothing to do with them. If anything, it forced me to tolerate being around them. I don’t know how much longer I could put up with it, with them.

The witches were quiet and it made it awkward to be in their presence. I was with them but not. They were able to communicate without having to speak with each other. They were a pack of their own and while I was used to conversation with the others in my head, their silence was eery.

The time I’d spent with them today had me feeling uneasy and ready to leave. This must be how rogues felt when on pack lands. I watched Nyx with a curiosity I wished I didn’t have.

It was easier being around her than it was with Jade. Not that I wanted to speak with her at all. She wasn’t annoying and the only thing I had against her was what she was.

I didn’t know what she could do but I knew what she was capable of. Thankfully, she was the complete opposite of Jade and was one of few words.

At first she watched the others with an interest. She didn’t say anything out loud but Jade watched her with a look I’d say was close to hope.

Jade let out a sigh when Nyx shook her head. I wanted to ask what she wasn’t pleased with but I kept my lips closed. Only three words left her lips.

He’s not here.

Realization dawned on me as I finally understood. She realized her destined wasn’t among the men. That was something witches and wolves had in common.

Fated pairs.

I ignored the pang in my chest at the words. I pushed back the thoughts that flooded my mind. From that moment on, she didn’t show any sexual interest in the warriors.

Instead, she watched them fight. Her eyes sweeping across every pair out on the field. Her eyes tracked their moves and I couldn’t help the thoughts that ran through my mind.
