Kacie
Other than the sounds of our footsteps, the silence was deafening as we walked down the hallway. The witches glided behind us and I headed along the ground toward the meeting room and I was surprised at the scowl on Jake’s face. Sensing my gaze, his face lightened as he glanced at me.
“I know you don’t like Clara but we discussed this morning. Why are you so upset?” I asked. I tried to ignore the shudder that raced along my spine. The idea of an argument breaking out during the meeting was terrifying. The chance of it happening was more than possible.
“The fact that she can turn on us at any moment is what has me on edge. I didn’t like the thought of one witch on our territory but now we’re stuck with three,” Jake growled low.
“Jake is right, we now have multiple witches here and no clue of how to control them,” Jamie says as she steps to my right.
“Having three witches on our side is good for our pack, it’s good for our people. If we were playing a game, it would say our defense has risen,” I said.
“This isn’t a game,” Jamie said.
“I know that!” I whispered angrily. I took a breath to calm myself before continuing. “Do we control them? No, and we couldn’t even if we wanted. Are they reckless? I don’t know the answer to that question but I do know they haven’t given us a reason that says they are.”
“You’re right,” Jamie said. “I’m sorry for snapping at you, Kace.”
“It’s okay,” I said and smiled at her. There wasn’t anything I could say that would make Jake trust them. Clara would have to prove me right, it was out of my hands.
Viktor abruptly came to a stop and opened the door to the meeting room. He held it open for me and Jake followed me in. Viktor walked to the other end of the table and takes his seat. I took a seat by his right while Jake sat to his left. The witches glided in and sat across from us. Jamie sat beside Jake and Viktor stood to address the witches.
“I want to start off by thanking you again for today, sincerely. From Kacie’s earlier words, I know a vision brought you here.” Clara nodded and Viktor continued. “What is the reason for your visit?” he asked.
Well, he got right to the point, didn’t he?
He did, Ath. It’s what we’re all wondering.
I’m not wondering. I’m not overly excited about their visit but I won’t lie. I’m excited to fight the witch.
Ath! She hasn’t even said if she’s going to train me.
She’s here, isn’t she?
Clara shared a look with her sisters before she leaned back in her chair. Her attention returned to Viktor. He watched her as he waited for her response. Clara reached up with her right hand and grasped the orb earring between her fingers.
“Before we get to that, I would like to introduce my sisters,” Clara said. “Nyx,” Clara glanced at the witch with fiery red hair and white eyes. All the eyes in the room focused on Nyx as she lifted her hand. She smiled at me and I fought the urge to shiver as a chill made its way down my back. “And Jade,” Clara nodded her head towards the woman with blonde hair and violet eyes. Both sisters gave me the chills but at least Jade had pupils. I returned their smiles.
“Nyx, Jade this is Kacie and her mate Viktor.” Jade’s eyes flashed with irritation but it was gone as fast as I’d seen it. “Their Beta, Jake, and their Gamma, Jamie,” Clara said. Jake and Jamie nodded to them, while Viktor, remained impassive. Clara’s sister’s gaze trailed over them as they were introduced.
“Now that everyone knows each other, I’d like to address your question, Alpha,” Clara started, “I’m here to train Kacie.”
“I want to thank you for your willingness to help,” Viktor said.
“Just like that?” Jake asked. His eyes were on Clara as he leaned forward and put his elbows on the table.
“Yes, just… like… that,” Clara confirmed. She held Jake’s gaze as she continued, “Thanks to my sight, I was privy to the meeting that was held this morning. Had I been closer, we would have been here earlier but I was a distance away. As soon as I was able, I contacted my sisters and we headed here.”
“Why would you come at the drop of a hat?” Jake asked.
“Jake!” I said. He wasn’t bothering to hide his suspicions. Nyx watched him with amusement and Jade looked irritated.
“No, it’s okay,” Clara said to me. “I didn’t put much thought into it, and before you ask me why I would want to train her, I was bored. My life has been quiet and I don’t have much to do right now. Coming here only gave me something to do.”
“What do you get out of helping us?” Jake asked. “No one goes to help someone who is mated to their destined for nothing.”
Oh. My. Gosh.
He isn’t wrong, Kacie.
“I am aware of who Kacie is,” Clara started. Her sister, Nyx cut her off.
“Being here and helping with your cause is beneficial for us. If helping you will help liberate our kind, we will do it. We’re tired of hiding, that’s why we came with Clara.” Jake seemed satisfied with his answer. Jade wasn’t satisfied with the Nyx’s answer.
“And the next time you air my sister’s dirty laundry out in front of a crowd, you’ll make an enemy out of me and my sister,” Jade spat. “I think everyone here is a part of a close circle, we don’t need a reminder.” Jade had been silent the entire time. Jake blinked at her sudden outburst and I think the rest of us were caught off guard.
