“Regarding Clara, I don’t want to say that I don’t agree but right now isn’t the time,” Viktor said. Three heads turned and looked at him. He was still seated and he folded his hands. Jake was the first to speak.
“You’re agreeing with her plan?”
“I’m saying I can see the pros and cons in bringing the witch back here,” Viktor said reassuringly as if trying to calm him. Jamie sighed and she began walking back and forth.
“We can’t control her, there’s no way to contain her if she acts out,” Jamie said.
“We would have to kill her or try to at least,” Jake murmured and Jamie stopped pacing.
“She didn’t act out the last time she was here,” I said. Viktor gave me a side glance and Jake grabbed his forehead; he was clearly stressed. “Yes, she may have made me see something that didn’t happen… and helped Ken kidnap me…” I trailed off but I realized I was digressing, “but she also had her reasons.”
“You can’t seriously be defending her,” Jake groaned. “The witch is dangerous!”
“In concerns to her powers, Beta, she didn’t use them to physically harm anyone in this room or in our pack. Even while I was under watch, he only used them against me when we fought. Once. After that one time, she used them against Ken’s men. Don’t forget she helped me get away from them.”
The room was silent and I knew I made a valid point. The reason they were against her was that she was a witch. “She is in control of her gifts and that’s what’s important here, that’s what we’re trying to accomplish with me. I don’t want to hurt anyone and she’s the one who can teach me.”
Jamie sighed, “You’re right.” I almost got whiplash from the speed at which my neck turned to look at her.
“What?”
“I said you’re right. Personal feelings and the whole issue of her being a witch aside, you’re right,” she repeated.
“Well, thank you,” I said. I was a little shocked but I was grateful that I could reach someone. Jake cast a concerned look between me and Jamie while Viktor leaned forward in his seat. “I don’t know where she’s from but maybe I could-”
“Jake and I will talk to the Deltas and see who’s free. When we have a small team, we’ll send them out to see what they can find out,” Viktor said.
I wanted to head out into the nearby towns and investigate Clara’s whereabouts but I trusted Viktor to get the answers we needed. I nodded, agreeing with his plan.
“Okay.” I didn’t have to be the one going, I would but at this point, I wanted Clara to be found. Who found her wasn’t important. If we could put light around Clara, it could help clear up the fear regarding witches.
Why are you so hung up over clearing her name and getting their approval of her? My wolf was irritated at the thought of her coming back here too.
If our pack could change their views on her, maybe the rest of the packs wouldn’t see me as a threat when word got out about my gift.
“Are we in agreement?” Viktor asked. Jamie said yes and Jake huffed but didn’t deny it. “I’ll take that as a yes, Beta. As soon as we get word of her, we can speak to her and see if she would consider coming back. Until then, we focus on getting stronger, tightening security around the borders, and us,” Viktor said.
“Us,” I said as I glanced at Jake. He looked at me and I smiled as he nodded.
“I’ve called most of the Delta’s and they are going to be here soon. We’re meeting in the lobby before we head out along the territory’s border. If there are openings that render us susceptible to attack, we need to find them. I’ll speak to them about their schedules.”
“We should head to training,” Jake said to Jamie.
“I’ll come with you, Alpha,” Jame said before turning to Jake. “I’ll leave you in charge of training, today.” She put emphasis on ‘today’ and I pursed my lips as I smiled. “Kacie, you are not to train with the others.” At this moment, she was the trainer and I was the trainee.
“I don’t like it but I understand,” I sighed as I nodded. “Yes, Gamma. I’ll attend training and watch everyone as they spar.”
“Good. Beta, you have a soft spot for her but she can’t join today,” Jame said as she turned on him.
“I’m not dumb, Gamma, I know,” Jake said.
“If you are still up for it after training today, you can spar with her,” Jamie said. “Don’t do anything too crazy, get her warmed up and see how far you can push her.”
“I was thinking of helping her out after,” Jake said, giving me a sly grin. “I’m very helpful and,” he said as he looked back at Jamie, “I’ll see to it that she’s pushed.”
“Well, we’ll head out now,” I said as I walked over to Viktor. “I’ll see you later,” I said as I gave him a quick kiss. He got to his feet and the four of us walked out of his office. I felt Viktor’s hand on my lower back disappear. He moved until he stood side by side with Jamie while Jake and I stood parallel from them.
“Keep her safe, Beta.”
“That’s so… gross. You make it seem like they are going off to battle,” Jamie rolled her eyes. “They’re just going to training. They’ll be fine lover boy.”
Viktor just stared at his sister as we walked down the hall. I couldn’t help but smile and a blush spread across my cheeks. Jake and I split apart from Viktor and Jamie as they stopped in the lobby. We passed the Delta’s Viktor had mentioned on the way out.
