Kacie

“I love you,” I whisper. Jake leans in and briefly, returns my kiss. I was ready, more than ready to continue fighting for my pack, my family. His fear is replaced briefly by lust. We don’t think about what anyone will think. They’ll all figure it out sooner or later. We will win today, we’ve almost taken down most of the rogues. On the off chance that I go down, I want to have felt him one last time. For a moment, we’re lost to the kiss, the love, the desperation, the lust.

Kacie.

Viktor’s voice pulled me out of the steamy trance I’d been in. We pulled apart and I searched my surroundings, as I looked for him. I couldn’t find him as my gaze slid over the people. I looked towards the trees the rogues had come from, nothing. I frantically looked for him.

Kacie.

When I did find him, he was coming from the direction of the packhouse. As our eyes locked, his face went from worry to relief. He rushed towards us with Jamie and Delta Declan by his side. Behind him, I recognized the other Deltas and a handful of his warriors.

My mate closed in on me with his huge body until he slammed into me. Large arms wrapped around me and pulled me close. A low growl emanated from him as his backup surveyed the fallen warriors.

A small group formed around us and the group of rogues left slowly retreated as they took in the new arrivals. Delta Declan growled before he tackled a nearby rogue and the rest of the Deltas followed his lead and tackled the rogues that were still on their feet.

“I’m sorry I was held up,” he growled against my temple. “We were patrolling the grounds when we came across a large group of rogues. We were outnumbered but thankfully, I took the Deltas along this morning and we were able to take them down.”

Wrapping my arms around his neck, I buried my face into his chest. I ignored the pain that spread through my body as I held him tightly. “You don’t have to say sorry for anything,” I whispered as he lifted my chin. He kissed my temple, my cheek, my nose. “I’m just grateful you’re okay.” I hadn’t had the time to worry about him but my body trembled as the thought of losing him crossed my mind.

“Is it selfish of me to want to rip you from the middle battle?” He asked.

“Yeah,” I agreed on a breath. “It’s very selfish. I belong by your side in a battle, not at home,” I teased. “You know-”

His mouth met mine and silenced anything else I was about to say. I melted into his kiss and his lips moved against mine. I sighed against his warmth and the blanket of safety I felt with him here. A moan escaped me and his tongue pushed between my lips, he kissed me hard and fast, and I savored every moment of it.

When he pulled apart, he turned his head to Jake. They stared at each other a look of understanding passing between the two of them. “Come here,” Viktor said. He reached out and Jake stepped forward without hesitation. He gripped the back of Jake’s neck and pulled him in until his forehead pressed against Jake’s.

“Did you think I’d fall?” Jake asked. Viktor shook his head and looked into Jake’s eyes. “I didn’t think, I just wanted to find the two of you,” Viktor said. “I didn’t know what the situation over here was like. I didn’t know how many groups of rogues had made it onto our lands.”

“We’re here,” Jake said. “I believe it was just the two groups that crossed our borders. From what I’ve gathered, this was it. I failed to keep her safe,” Jake murmured.

“She’s alive,” Viktor said as he released Jake. He turned to me and his eyes searched my face before he stood back and took in my body. He clenched his jaw and his eyes darkened as he registered my injuries.

“I don’t know how you got the witches here or on our side but you’re amazing,” he said softly. Remembering Clara, I scanned the fight before us until I found her. I watched as Clara’s opponent was thrown into the air before slamming into the ground repeatedly. I don’t think I’ll ever get used to seeing her use her power. The rogue was powerless against her attacks. His legs swung wildly as he flew through the air.

“We can talk about that when we get back to the packhouse,” I said. As much as I wanted to tell him about what happened, we had other things we needed to take care of at this moment. Jamie cleared her throat beside us and we turned to look at her.

“Luna’s right, let’s take care of the situation and she needs to see a doctor as soon as possible,” Jamie said. Jake visibly relaxed at the mention of me going to see Doctor James and I wanted to roll my eyes. Viktor turned from me and strode to the middle of the group. Most of the rogues were on their knees, on the ground, or dead. Those who had been fighting stopped and watched Viktor.

“Surrender now and you get to walk away with your lives. Continue fighting and every single one of you won’t live to see another day,” Viktor’s voice boomed. Everyone in our pack stood still and watched the rogue. My eyes trailed over Clara’s sisters, they stood side-by-side as they watched Viktor.

A few of the rogues who had been defeated fell to their knees and bowed their heads in defeat. I relaxed as the rogues who were still able to fight fell to their knees too. I swallowed as my gaze landed on Clara. She stood with her boot on the back of a rogue. She pressed down on him and he wheezed beneath her.

“Surrender,” Viktor growled.
