The man's question made Gloria silent. She was not good at anything.
Yuna immediately said, "Mr. White, why don't you ask her to sing? With her voice, it must be fun when she sings."
Gloria's vocal cords were damaged, so her voice was hoarse and unpleasant. Therefore, she seldom spoke, and if she did, she would speak in a low voice.
"Her voice is so unpleasant when she talks. Can she sing?"
Yuna sat on the man's thigh and flirted with him. "Mr. White, you can enjoy great voices in other places, but her voice is unique and you'll have fun. Just ask her to sing for you. If you dislike it, we can cover our ears with earplugs."
"Her voice is so unpleasant. Are you sure you want to hear her sing?" said the man.
"That is exactly the reason that I want her to sing. I am curious how unbearable it will be." Yuna said as she leaned her plump chest against the man's arm.
"Mr. White, what do you say?"
The man was pleased by Yuna's service. He didn't care if Gloria agreed with it or not and said, "Okay, I'll listen to you."
As he spoke, he rubbed Yuna's thigh.
The man took out a stack of money from his briefcase, looking at Gloria as he said, "I'm a reasonable person. There are ten thousand dollars. You'll get five hundred dollars for each song. You can take as much money as you want."
"Mr. White, why do you offer her so much money?" Yuna said with dissatisfaction.
The man put on a smile, trying to look charming.
He said to Yuna, "Baby, don't worry. I will give you more money later."
"Mr. White." Yuna pretended to look shy and left the man's thigh.
She handed the microphone to Gloria and smiled, "Gloria, I've picked the songs for you."
Gloria took the microphone quietly. She was not surprised by the high-pitched songs that Yuna had chosen for her.
Obviously, Yuna wanted to humiliate Gloria today.
If Gloria's vocal cords were not damaged, she could sing very well.
When Gloria's hoarse voice echoed in the room, the man frowned, and Yuna handed him earplugs thoughtfully.
She looked at Gloria gloatingly.
Gloria kept singing, but no one was listening to her. The man was holding Yuna and watching a movie, while Yuna was playing games on her phone.
No one asked Gloria to stop, and she almost lost her voice.
She endured the pain in her legs. Even with the microphone, one could hardly hear her voice.
"Alright, it's about time." The man suddenly stood up, removed the earplugs, and frowned at Gloria. "Take all the money on the table."
Yuna also stood up. "Mr. White, she hasn't finished singing yet."
"Well, baby, I had enough of it. She has lost her voice, and we have more important things to do."
Yuna was not convinced, yet she was not stupid enough to refute the guest.
She lowered her face and smiled shyly.
The man was satisfied with Yuna's reaction. He smiled and walked out of the room with her.
When passing by Gloria, Yuna stopped and said proudly, "You have lost your voice. And you won't have to speak in your unpleasant voice for a while. You should thank me. I asked you to sing, and your voice is better now."
Gloria kept silent. After the man and Yuna left, she couldn't hold on and fell to the ground with a loud thud.
As she sat on the ground, she kneaded her knees and muscles to ease the pain in her legs.
She stood up, stretched out her trembling hand, and grabbed the money on the table. Then, she walked out.
"Christine, please deposit this money into my account."
"Where did you get it?" Christine asked curiously.
She did not give any work to Gloria today!
"Also, what happened to your throat?"
"It's nothing. I didn't sing much. Someone asked me to sing for a rich man. He gave me the money."
Christine knew that Gloria wouldn’t tell her more about it. She nodded calmly and responded lightly. Then, she took the money from Gloria and handed Gloria a cup of water. "Drink up."
Gloria drank all the water from the cup. The coldness in Christine's eyes grew stronger.
Gloria was thirsty. She must have sung a lot, or she wouldn't be this thirsty.
"Christine, I'm going to have dinner." A meal would be served in the Fittro Club every evening. It was almost dinner time; Gloria was going to eat something.
After that, she waited until the work hour was over and returned to the dormitory.
Lillian, who lived with Gloria, returned earlier than Gloria.
When Gloria entered the room, Lillian stood up all of a sudden, "Gloria."
Gloria nodded, passed the living room, and walked to her bedroom.
"Gloria, is that true? " Lillian shouted.
Gloria looked at Lillian in confusion.
"Is that true?" Lillian asked. "Gloria, everyone is saying that you'll do anything for money... You crawled on the ground and begged for mercy. Tell me, it's not true." Lillian was a little agitated.
Lillian's words were like a sledgehammer and hit Gloria's heart.
Gloria's body tensed up and swayed slightly. After she regained her balance, she glanced at Lillian indifferently. "It's true."
"So, what they said was true!" Lillian's eyes widened in disbelief and exclaimed, "Gloria, I thought I knew you. You would sell your dignity for money.
"Gloria, how can you do that to yourself?" Lillian shouted. She accused Gloria angrily, "You fooled me!"
Gloria stood at the door of the bedroom. She listened to Lillian calmly and still smiled at her.
"Why are you still smiling?" Lillian was in disbelief. "What's the matter with you? Gloria, are you willing to do anything for money?"
Lillian shouted at Gloria, "Is money that important to you?"
