POV Kiara

Dr. Cross hands me a simple headache pill from her medicine cabinet. Her expression looks apologetic as she offers it.

"Unfortunately, this is all I can offer you right now," she admits. Her scientific frustration is obvious in her voice. "Your case is unprecedented. I need more time to research hybrid physiology before I can provide real medical assistance."

I take the pill and swallow it dry. It's not much help, but at least she's being honest about the limitations.

The new information about dual mate bonds both excites and terrifies me.

Part of me is fascinated by the possibility of something so rare. But the larger part is scared of what it means for my relationship with Thomen.

I remember Aleron's words about accepting my vampire nature. But knowing I should accept it and actually knowing how to do it are two different things. Everything inside me still feels like it's at war with itself.

The drive home is tense. Thomen grips the steering wheel so tightly his knuckles turn white. His jaw stays clenched the entire time. His eyes are dark with emotions I can feel through our mate bond.

His anguish hits me like a physical pain. I reach over and place my hand on his knee, trying to offer comfort.

"You said we could handle this together," I whisper, trying to make my voice sound certain. "I am only yours."

But even as I say the words, uncertainty creeps into my tone. I hear Aleron's quiet, sarcastic chuckle echoing in my mind, and I question whether what I just said is even true anymore.

Can I belong only to Thomen if I'm supernaturally bonded to Aleron too?

Our arrival home gets interrupted by urgent knocking on our door. One of our scouts hurries to report new vampire activity close to pack territory.

"They're moving closer to our borders," the scout says, slightly out of breath. "Three separate sightings in the last hour."

My Alpha instincts take over immediately, pushing my personal problems aside.

"Thomen, assemble a team and investigate," I command. "Find out what they want and how many there are."

I'm grateful for the distraction of leadership responsibilities. Focusing on pack business feels normal when nothing else in my life does anymore.

"I want a full report as soon as possible," I continue. "Take Marcus and four of our best fighters."

Thomen nods and heads out to gather his team. An hour later, I'm alone in our empty house after promising him I would rest.

But I don't rest. Instead, I head deep into the forest. My need to understand and control my vampire nature drives me to seek solitude for training.

Aleron's voice fills my consciousness immediately.

"I wondered when you'd come looking for guidance," his mental voice says with obvious satisfaction.

"I need help," I admit, even though it feels like defeat. "I can't control these changes on my own."

"I know. And despite everything between us, I'll help you."

I can feel the inexorable pull of our connection. Whatever supernatural bond exists between us, it's getting stronger.

"Close your eyes," Aleron instructs. "Focus on your enhanced senses. Don't fight them. Let them expand."

I follow his mental guidance. My hearing stretches outward, picking up heartbeats from pack members miles away. My sense of smell becomes so sharp I can track individual scent trails across impossible distances.

"Good," Aleron says. "Now try seeing in complete darkness."

I open my eyes. Even though we're deep in the forest where very little sunlight filters through, I can see everything clearly.

Every leaf, every branch, every small animal moving through the underbrush.

"This is incredible," I breathe.

"You're an excellent student. Your hybrid abilities are responding well to proper guidance."

We spend the next hour working on control exercises. I learn to dial my enhanced senses up and down at will. I practice moving with supernatural speed and strength.

"Now we'll work on combat applications," Aleron says.

That's when he steps out of the shadows between the trees. Seeing him physically instead of just hearing his voice in my head brings all my buried emotions rushing back.

Before I can say anything, he moves toward me in a fighting stance.

All the rage I've been carrying explodes out of me. I attack him with everything I have, my claws extending as I channel years of pain into my strikes.

"Why did you betray the pack that raised you?" I scream, pressing my assault. "Why did you betray my father? Why did you betray me?"

Each accusation punctuates a vicious attack. I pour my broken heart into every swing, every kick, every attempt to hurt him the way he hurt me.

Aleron deflects my strikes with graceful precision. His centuries of combat experience let him repel my emotional assault without getting seriously injured.

Then he shifts to offense, and his words cut deeper than any physical blow could.

"I never considered myself part of your pack," he says, landing controlled strikes that force me backward. "I was just a bargaining chip. A living seal for the peace treaty your father negotiated."

His declaration ignites fresh fury in me. "That's not true!"

"Vampires are my family," he continued relentlessly. "My clan, my blood, my kind. They always were, even when I was pretending otherwise."

I launch myself at him with renewed violence, tears streaming down my face.

"Liar!" I accused, my voice breaking. "You lied when you said the Alpha was like a father to you! You lied when you called the pack home! You lied when you said you loved me!"

I swing at him with everything I have, putting all my strength and speed behind the blow. But he catches my wrist before I can connect. He pulls me close until our faces are inches apart.

"My love for you was never a lie," he says intensely.

His pale green eyes burned with years of longing and regret. Before I could respond, before I could argue or pull away, he captured my lips in a kiss that stole my breath.

The moment our mouths touched, electricity exploded between us. But this kiss was different from any we'd shared before—hungrier, more possessive. Carrying the weight of everything we'd been to each other and everything we'd lost.

When his fangs pierced my lower lip, drawing blood, I gasped against his mouth. The sharp pain mixed with pleasure as he drank from me, and I could feel the soulmate bond that had been building between us suddenly snap into place with devastating finality.

Every barrier between us dissolved. His emotions flooded through me. Years of loneliness that I somehow filled, desperate love he'd tried to suppress, regret for choices that had torn us apart.

And I knew he could feel everything I felt in return. My confusion, my anger, my unwilling attraction to him despite everything he'd done.

When we finally broke apart, I was breathing hard, my entire world shifted off its axis.

"What did you just do?" I whispered, touching my still-bleeding lip.

"I completed what started when you first drank my blood," Aleron replied, his thumb tracing the wound he'd created. "The vampire soulmate bond is fully established now. Permanent. Unbreakable."

I could feel him in my mind more clearly than ever before—not just his voice, but his very essence woven through mine like golden thread through dark silk.

And I know he can feel me the same way.

"This changes everything…" I say.

"Yes, it does," he agreed, before capturing my lips with his once again.
