Kacie
The next morning I woke up with a blanket of fatigue covering my body. The rain outside drummed against the windowsill. His light breathing next to me. Thoughts of earlier flash across my mind.
Athena has been quiet and I’ve missed her in my ear. I want to talk to her about last night, about this morning, about… Viktor. The pain between my legs was more evident now than it was earlier. I lost count of how many times he made me his.
It was overwhelming and… I don’t know how to put words to how I feel right now. I wasn’t scared or afraid of him. I wanted what he did to me, I wanted all of it. How can something so amazing be bad?
“Because intimacy was never supposed to be bad, Kacie,” Athena whispered to me.
“Where have you been Athena? You’ve been quiet, I’ve missed you.”
“I-…” she gasps.
“Why are you so weak Athena? What’s going on?” I ask her as I sit up.
“Another time,” she whispers.
“I don’t want to wake up our mate,” she says as we look at him.
“The full moon is close Kacie, it’ll be your first time shifting under the moon.”
“I’m not scared,” I lie, “I can’t wait to see you, Athena.”
“Me too. I need to rest,” she says before disappearing.
I haven’t been able to hear Athena that long but the weakness in her voice makes me worry. I don’t want to lose her but I don’t know what’s wrong and I don’t know how to help.
Viktor stirs and turns before he wakes. His black hair falling back against the pillow, his eyes fighting sleep as he looks up at me. My mate’s tired eyes search my face before smiling.
“You’re a sight for sore eyes,” he says, his voice lower than usual. He rolls over on his side and props his head on his hand. “I could get used to this,” Viktor says with a laugh. “To what?” I ask.
“To you being the last thing I see at night and the first thing I see in the morning.”
His words make me blush, “That would be… amazing,” I say a little breathless at the idea. I look at him and my eyes trail down his chest.
“When is the next full moon, Viktor?” I ask him curiously how long I have to wait. I wonder if the full moon will give her strength. I’m sure it would… I wonder what’s going on with her… where has she been? She said she’d tell me later but the need to know it eating at me.
“I love it when you say my name,” he says with a groan.
“I’m… sore Master,” I say and I can feel a warmth spread across my face and down my chest. I know I’m blushing but I can’t hide it from him.
“I know baby girl, I won’t touch you until you’re healed. I should have had more control last night,” he says and I know he means it.
“It’s okay, Master. I’m not complaining,” I say as I reach out to touch him. My fingers meet hard muscle and I blush at my boldness.
“This morning and last night…” I stop.
“Was amazing,” he finishes my sentence. Viktor’s hand snakes around my neck and he slowly pulls me towards him. I can feel his breath on my lips as his lips meet mine.
His lips were firm and warm over mine, insistent, demanding as his caressed mine. His lips parted mine and I felt him lick inside my mouth. His tongue was soft and warm, every nerve ending coming alive as he kissed me.
“I have to go,” he said with a lace of regret, he pulled away and ran a hand through his beautiful messy hair. “You’ll stay in bed today to rest,” he said. “I’ll have your meals brought up to you so don’t even think about leaving this room.”
Viktor leaned down and kissed me on the forehead. “I have to meet Jake for some a perimeter run. I have a few issues to take care of today but I’ll see you later.”
I nod. I don’t want him to leave but I know he’s got responsibilities.
“Okay,” I nod and lean in to give him a kiss on the cheek.
“I’ll be here,” I say with a smile.

Viktor
We’ve covered District 4 and we’ve been running along the border of District 2 for over an hour now. I can feel Jake’s nervousness as we search for a sign of them, wait for a scent to alert us of where they’re at.
“Calm down,” I link him, “You’re making Flash and I antsy,” I say lightly trying to ease his nerves.
Jake chuckles nervously.
The faint smell of sage drifts through the air and we both slow to a stop. We’re too close to District 1, too close to Kacie. My muscles are tense as I stand my ground and scan the area.
The woods on the other side of the border give off the perfect covering for intruders. A gust of wind blows past us and Jake whines as the smell of sage grow stronger.
Witches.
His wolf looks at me before lowering his head down to the ground. “They’re close,” he tells me through our link.
I scan the forested area again when my eyes pick up four shadows just past District 2’s border. A warning growl leaves my throat.
The four shadows stay there, their faces are hidden by the dark forest. The wind picks up and their scent brushes against my face. One scent reaches out to me, brushing my senses, and tickling my nose.
The light scent of lavender lightly wafts through the other scents and pulls at something deep inside of me. I feel the need to get closer to the owner of this scent, to see the face of who it belongs to. The pull isn’t the same as Kacie, not the same at all, but the pull is there.
Flash whines and confusion erupts in my chest, in my heart. A slender leg steps out of the shadows and a tiny body comes into view. Another leg steps out and the face of the owner of the lavender scent looks at me, her hazel eyes staring into my soul.
Mate.
