My intuition was always right.
Emerald Fortis was sitting on a chair in front of me.
Emerald was the daughter of Grey. She was my distant cousin. We were so similar physically that it was very unsettling. Everyone used to call us twins. Her eyes were green unlike my blue ones. That would be explained by her dominant werewolf genes. I could feel my heart beats races in my ribcage. I was not afraid of her.
Emerald was known to be ruthless, emotionless and careless. She didn't give a simple fuck of anything. I knew that she was here on behalf of her father. I pushed my hair off my face then tilted my head slightly. It was striking how much we looked like each other.
Terrifying even.
"You're far from home, Emerald" I pointed out as I lifted my hand to look at my nails. My father's number one rule when you're facing an enemy: Don't show any signs of weakness or fear.
"So are you, Hazel" she retorted as she stood up and walked a few steps in my direction. I could see that she was keeping her distance.
She knew the powers of an Enchantress.
"What are you doing here?" I asked.
"Seems like I caught your scent, cousin" she sighed. "Is that your new home?" She questioned. The innocence in her voice could almost seem sincere.
"Do you think I would tell you if it was?" I scoffed.
"As a matter of fact, I know that this is not your home" Emerald stated while staring inside of the huge living room. She closed her eyes then sniffed a few times before grinning. "Werewolves" she then pointed out. My eyes skimmed her outfit. She was wearing a pair of black jeans and a white shirt. Her hair was tied in a high ponytail. I could see a tattoo on her upper arm. Her auburn hair seemed to have darkened a little bit.
"What are you doing here, Emerald?" I questioned, trying to sound bored. Her grin instantly disappeared from her face as she turned to look at me.
"What is that tough act that you're putting on, Hazel?" She growled, trying to get me to flinch. Her eyes were glowing. I yawned before stretching my body.
"I an not putting any tough act, cousin" I breathed. "I am just not scared of you" I shrugged while taking a step in her direction. "Or your father as a matter of fact" I chuckled. I saw how her eyes quickly acknowledge the movement of my feet in her direction. "Now tell me, Emerald. Why come here if you're so scared?" I questioned while shaking my head.
"I have been looking for you" She said casually. "My father is no longer interested with your father. Turns out, some young blood is better" she pointed in my direction. I rolled my eyes but still stayed on my guard. "And it is much easier to look for a thriving enchantress who is of age to explore the world and shit" she said while motioning between me and her. "I mean here is the result!" she exclaimed, clearly proud of herself.
"What are you waiting for?" I asked. I was alone by the side of a huge house. I was surprised that with their super hearing, any of these werewolves have managed to wake up. "I am here, Emerald. What are you waiting for?" I could sense a tint of fear in her demeanor. She didn't want to attack me on her own.
She needed back up.
"Where is the fun?" She asked with a huge smile and the next second, she was gone. I blinked looking at the path she just ran through. I quickly opened the door of the house and walked in. I closed the door quickly, looking at the woods.
Emerald had found me.
They were no longer after my father.
I was relieved. I preferred having them coming after me than after my father and my family. I gulped at the thought of being captured.
Worst, killed.
Emerald was not dumb enough to attack me while I was surrounded by werewolves. I knew that she had eyes on me though. With a huff, I walked to the couch. I plopped myself in it and a sudden wave of relief and warmth enveloped me. My body instantly relaxed as this overwhelming feeling provided me with a sense of safety. The sweet smell engulfed my nose. I frowned, trying to see if there was any perfume diffuser around.
I need to convince my parents to buy this couch.
But the first problem I needed to solve, was how to tackle this problem. I was glad to see how calm I have managed to keep myself. I had no intention to report this to my parents. I felt safe among these werewolves. People would be stupid to attack them.
Not to forget the vampire.
"Was it you talking?" I turned my head around in fear, not expecting Lena to be standing at the bottom of the stairs while rubbing her sleepy eyes.
"Was I loud?" I asked.
"You could have woken the whole damn house, Haze" Lena breathed while walking to the kitchen.
"I was talking to my mother" I lied smoothly. I turned around to look at her. She took a gulp of her water and frowned at my words.
"Your mother isn't sleeping at that time?" She asked while pointing towards the clock.
Okay. Not so smooth.
"She wasn't" I simply said.
"Why aren't you sleeping?" She then asked me.
"You snore way too loud" I huffed, then made a comfortable spot for me on the couch. "And the couch is much more comfortable" I shrugged.
"You're not sleeping on the couch, Haze" Lena scolded.
"Says who?" I asked teasingly.
"Me" Lena yawned. "Let's go to bed" she said, motioning to come with her as she walked up the stairs. I shook my head.
"I won't be able to sleep, Lena" I said.
"Do whatever you want and let me know if the pizza was good" she mumbled incoherently.
Pizza?
What?
Sleepy Lena was always so funny.
