"What time will you be coming?" Lena asked me. I held the phone between my shoulder and my ear. I was trying to put my shoes on.
"I haven't asked my parents yet, Lena" I told her honestly. I stared at my reflection in the mirror then nodded to myself. I was satisfied enough with my choice of clothing.
"But it's with my family! What could go wrong?" Lena asked me in exasperation. I shrugged then proceeded in face-palming myself when I realized that she couldn't see me.
"I'll ask them and if they say yes, I'll meet you at yours around 8pm?" I suggested. There was some shuffling in the background. I waited a few seconds before actually getting an actual response from her.
"It's just five days on the mountains. My parents are going to be there. It should be fine" Lena sighed.
"I'll ask them" I said before ending the call. I really wanted to go to the mountain with Lena and her family. The only problem that my parents might have here, is that Lena and her family are werewolves.
We knew their secrets but they didn't know ours. They thought that we were mere humans. It was a huge risk to befriend Lena but at the end, our friendship took over. I always promised my parents that I would never reveal our identity to Lena.
I had to implement a strategy on how to approach my parents. I stared at my white ceiling for a few minutes.
Fuck it.
I made my way to the living room and saw my parents there. They were both watching a show on the television. My mother turned to look at me and a grin formed on her face.
"Ah. Some proper clothes" she complimented. I was wearing a mid-thigh summer dress. I walked to them and sat on the couch, pretending to be interested in the show that they were watching.
"Mom, Dad" I started, my eyes still on the screen. I was trying to show no interest in what I was telling them.
"Yes?" My father responded, paying half attention to me.
"Lena and her family invited me for a week at their holiday house in the mountain" I said nonchalantly. I gave a quick side glance to see that they were now both staring at me.
Oh. No.
"For a whole week?" My mother asked.
"Yeah. Her family invited me so that we could spend the holidays together" I repeated. I didn't want them to say now. I leant my back against the back of the black couch as my eyes trailed from the television to the numerous pictures that were hanging on the wall. There were some of Jet, some of me, some of my parents and some of all of us.
"You know that it's too risky. We didn't mind you befriending a werewolf, Haze. But going alone for seven days with them sounds very reckless" my mother started, sounding quite unsure by what she was saying.
"Do you want to go?" My father asked me, a small smile on his face. He knew me too well.
"Of Course. Lena is my best friend. And I have masked my scent so there will be no harm done" I explained. It was kinda hard to be always asking my parents permission before doing something. I was twenty two years old. I wanted to be able to go without the side worry. I wanted to live a normal life.
"No magic. You're going as a mere human" my father said.
"She is going?" My mother asked in surprise.
"Scarlet, she is twenty two. At twenty two, you were living your life" My father said while pushing a strand of hair behind her ear.
"At twenty two, I was pregnant with Hazel" My mother deadpanned.
"We should be proud that she isn't pregnant yet" My father shrugged. I quickly shook my head as this conversation was heading towards somewhere I wasn't very keen to discussed about.
"I can go?" I asked, my voice filled with hope.
"Who's going to be there?" My mother asked seriously.
"Just Lena and her parents. Possibly her sister and brother too" I explained. There was going to be her cousins as well but I guessed the less werewolves my parents were aware of, the better it was.
"How old is her brother?" My father questioned. By the look on his face, It was very noticeable that he was turning all protective.
"I have no idea, dad" I drawled.
Lies.
Lena's brother was the definition of what I would call a man. I have seen him only once in my entire life. And during those few minutes I have seen him, I knew that he was the Alpha of his pack. The power the oozes off him, was what was very intimidating.
The only time I've seen him was literally six months ago. He didn't live with his family. He had his own house. But I was pretty sure that his parents were expecting him for these holidays.
Did I forget to mention that Lena's brother has been the main subject in my dreams? I have been dreaming of him several nights. I have been dreaming of him, touching me.
I never spoke to him. That one time we saw each other, he didn't really acknowledged my presence. I could sense that he didn't like me. But I, on the other side, had developed a tiny attraction to him.
Who wouldn't be attracted to him?
That man was the definition of what I would personally call perfect. He was very well-built and he had tattoos adorning his arms and his left chest from what I recall.
"Haze?" My mother called, breaking my trail of thoughts.
"So I am going?" I asked curiously.
"Yes. But there are some ground rules" my father started.
"No magic. That's the only ground rule" I told them. "I am twenty two" I reminded.
"Still our kid" my father shrugged.
