"Your mother never told you about the full moon before she dies?" she asked.
"No," I shook my head.
Madison stared at me surprisingly.
"Come," she instructed.
I followed her into the living room and sat beside her.
"Living alone for so long, I've completely forgotten about the full moon," she told me.
"I don't understand, what you meant when you said you're going to lose me forever?" I asked with curiosity.
"I'm sorry I didn't mean to scare you," Madison retorted.
"Please tell me about the full moon," I was growing impatient to know everything about it.
The full moon would affect me and I needed to know why. Recollecting what the alpha told me was scaring me. Who would take me from here? Would the full moon be under some strange powers that would compel me to leave from here?
"The full moon is a mating season for when a she-wolf or a male wolf who is 18 or older and is mature enough to find their mate," explained Madison.
"Mate?" I asked, still confused.
"Their partner, soulmate, or someone they would love and dwell with."
"Your mom went through the mating season as well, that's how she and your father met and you later came along."
I now understand what she meant by the mating season.
My head turned away from her. I was nervous, now knowing about the mating season. I don't think I was ready to find my soulmate.
Madison held my hand, causing me to turn my head back to her.
"I know you're nervous," she said. "I'm a bit worried about you as well."
"I believe you are not ready to belong to someone. Your mind isn't mature enough."
I agreed.
I wished my grandmother had educated me about the effect the full moon would have on me once I turned 18. Perhaps, I would be prepared.
"I won't allow the moon to give me a partner," I shook my head concerned.
Madison pulled me by the hand bringing me closer to her.
"Hun, there's nothing we can do about it," she said. "It's something we cannot stop or ignored. The moon goddess is the one who makes the decision if we should have a mate or not."
"Well, I hope she doesn't. For I'm not ready," I got up with my eyes filling with tears.
I blink away my tears not wanting to cause rain, but it was so hard to.
"I don't want a baby, I'm not ready to be a mother," I cried.
Madison ran to hug me.
"I agree on that," she hugged me tighter.
"I don't want you to be ever frightened of having a baby, it is the most beautiful thing that could happen to a she-wolf," said Madison. "You're just not ready as yet, my child that's why you're so scared."
"Let's hope, your mate is a wolf of a strong mind that can help you grow and can protect you from anything."
Protect me from anything, those were the words I took in as I looked her in the eyes.
"I hope your mate won't be as weak as mine was," Madison said sadly as she sat back down.
I wiped away my tears and sat at her side.
"When I was 18, like you, I found my mate, his name was Thomas Harpen, he was a beautiful dark hair and dark eyes wolf. I thought I could never love a wolf so much until the day he left me when we lost our daughter."
"I'm sorry," I touched her hand.
It was quite strange that her mate and I had the same last name, but seeing Madison so sad, broke my heart. She was a good wolf, she is the only wolf who show me kindness and I hated the state she was in.
"You know my mother never talked about my father," I lied about my mother instead of saying it was my grandmother. I had lied to her that I was alone in the depth of the forest after my mom had died. I had to continue my lies.
"I guess, he too was not a good wolf that's why my mother never did," I concluded.
"I guess so," Madison responded softly. I could hear the pain and great loss in her voice.
"Unlike me, he sure did start a new life with another wolf, one he feels was much better than me."
I hugged her as she cried.
"I don't want to hear anything about him," I told her.
I now understand why my grandmother never wanted to talk about my father. He must have done my mother very wrong as well.
"Let us," Madison sniffed as she wiped away her tears.
I smiled.
She held both of my arms and stared into my eyes.
"I hope tomorrow night, you'll find a wolf that gives you the safety you need."
I nodded, but nervously.
If there was no way I could escape the mating season I was now hoping for a wolf who was as powerful and strong as the alpha that can protect me from my enemy and one I could trust with my secret, if we'd have to dwell together.
