The room is quiet while the three of us watch Doctor James mull over his question. The nurses continue to clean up. One grabs the cords while the other grabs hold of the sonogram. I’m ready for his answer. Jake shuffles from one foot to the other and I know he’s nervous about what he’s going to say. Viktor is like a tall oak tree. He stands still and doesn’t bend to the winds of change.

“We’ll excuse ourselves,” one of the nurses said.

We wait for them to They both bow and exit from the room. When the door closes behind them, Doctor James looks like he finally has an answer for us.

“We don’t know how the child was affected from the fight and honestly, only time will tell. In the meanwhile, I would suggest Luna Kacie stay in bed and relax. She should avoid fighting or training. She should avoid strenuous work until we know for sure that she is in the clear and the child is okay. She shouldn’t lift anything heavy either. I know that the position of Luna is a stressful one, but I would advise against any stress until we know she is stabilized.”

“You can’t be serious,” I said. “I can’t be expected to stay inside all day until who knows when?”

“You can’t seriously be thinking about fighting- " I cut Jake off.

“Training,” I said.

“Fine. You can’t seriously be thinking about training when we just had that scare. We were all afraid you miscarried, Kacie. You can’t be thinking about going back out there and going against the witches when you should be resting. No, when you should be recovering!” Jake said.

“Don’t you yell at me!” I screamed.

“I think I should excuse myself,” Doctor Jame said.

“No,” I said. “Not yet. I have more questions.”

“As you wish, Luna,” Doctor James said.

“You guys,” Viktor said. He reached for Jake and grabbed his shoulder. “Calm down. Let’s talk this through without yelling. Jake, I need you to relax. Let’s be cool about this.”

“I am thinking about this. You guys aren’t the ones who are going through this. You guys are the ones who have to stay home, stay indoors, and stop what you’re doing. I’m the one who is expected to do this. Why? Because I’m carrying? No, I’m Luna. I have an ability that can hurt people. I need to be able to control it. I need to be stronger. Even more so now that I’m having a child,” I said.

“So think about the child, Kacie,” Jake said. “You just had your ass handed to you by Jade and her mud monster. I need-we need you to think about the child. What are you training for? No one is coming after us. The enemy-”

“Jake,” Viktor warned, cutting him off. Jake sighed.

“The only ones we have to worry about are already here. There’s no rush. You can take a little bit of time for yourself to relax, to rest,” Jake pleaded.

“We’re not trying to tell you what to do, Kacie. We just want you to be careful. We’re worried about you… and the baby,” Viktor said.

“We have so much we still need to talk about,” I said.

“I know,” Viktor said. Jake nodded. “And we’re not saying we aren’t going to talk about it. I’ve heard you. I won’t sweep anything under the rug, but we just… we really need you not to stress right now. Let’s take it slowly and talk when we’re all calmed down. I agree that the three of us need to talk, but I also think that we need to be in the right head space first.”

“Agreed,” Jake sighed.

“Kacie?” Viktor asked.

“I’m not agreeing to anything, but I understand that right this moment might not be the right time to talk,” I said. Viktor bent down and placed a kiss to my forehead.

“Thank you,” Viktor whispered.

I’m not pleased but I’ll leave it here. I know I’m emotional and I know my hormones are partly to blame. I know that I also overreacted a little bit with Jake so I know that I need to admit my own faults too, but I can’t help it. I have this feeling as if I’ve been wronged.

“What can I clear up for you, Luna?” Doctor James asked. He stood quietly a few feet from the bed. I had asked him to stay but had forgotten that he was here.

“I’m sorry for forcing you to stay and witness our fight.”

“I understand, Luna. It’s only natural for couples to… have arguments.”

“Yes,” I laugh awkwardly. “Must I be bedridden?” I asked.

He folded his arms in front of his chest and I waited with baited breath for his answer. He considered how to answer my question and I wished he would give me the answer I desired.

“I wouldn’t say bedridden. I would say you need to rest for most of the day. Walking would be good for you. So would fresh air. As for training, I highly advise against this because it’s strenuous and will put stress on your body. Going against one of the witches right now is dangerous for your health,” Doctor James said.

It wasn’t the answer I wanted but from the look in his eyes I knew he was being honest. I wouldn’t be able to fight or train. Goddess, I might not even be able to walk outside on my own now. I could see the worry and territorial look in the guys eyes. I would be under surveillance until I was better.

“Okay,” I sighed.

“Do you have any other questions?” Doctor James asked.

“No. Thank you for your time,” I said.

“I’ll leave these pictures with you,” Doctor James said. He placed a pile of square ultrasound photos down on the bed. The guys thanked him and when he was gone the room was quiet. I spoke before the guys could talk first. Jake’s phone buzzed but he didn’t look at it.

Odd.
